National Testing Services Ltd is a niche provider of specialist testing services serving the civil engineering, construction, and infrastructure industries. Due to continued growth an opportunity has arisen for a Highway Coring Technician/Labourer/Trainee to join our experienced and enthusiastic team who carry out site-based testing and sampling to our wide-ranging client base across the UK.

Relevant experience in a similar role in the industry is NOT essential, although we welcome applications from time served candidates. This is a training role, and we are keen to hear from candidates who are enthusiastic, enjoy working outdoors, and can learn new skills quickly.

The Role:

Work will normally involve staying away 4 or 5 nights a week, consisting of mostly dayshifts with some early starts and/or late finishes as well as blocks of nights.

All works start and finish at our yard in Malpas, Cheshire SY14 8LU, so you will need to commute to Malpas at the beginning of each week. We operate across the UK, so candidates must live within a commutable distance or be prepared to travel to the yard.

All accommodation (individual rooms) and meals are paid for by the company. Flexibility in hours is required to ensure work requirements and contract deadlines are met and will include working outside in all weathers.

Duties:

Supporting the Lead Technician in the extraction of bituminous and concrete core samples from roads and footways.

Undertake hand excavated inspection pits, general labouring duties, general reinstatement.

Set-up appropriate signing, lighting, and guarding of the work area (training provided). Support the Lead Technician to maintain constant work rate, to produce high output levels on a consistent basis and reducing downtime. Report to the Lead Technician and carry out their instructions. Understand specific testing instructions, completing and reporting work to the office, as required. Carry out routine maintenance on plant and equipment and report all defects, as instructed. Provide effective input to projects consistent with your skills and experience. Accept training with a view to promotion to Lead Technician, subject to suitability. Carry out any other task or work-related activity to meet the needs of the business.

Essential - Qualifications, Skills & Experience -

Hardworking and self-motivated with a positive "can-do" attitude. UK Diving Licence with less than 6 points. Ability to accept instructions and work to specified procedures. Able to pre-empt problems and constructively tackle obstacles. Maintain accurate and legible records. Organised and motivated. Flexibility to work in varying locations around the UK, often at short notice, throughout the year.

Desirable - Qualifications, Skills & Experience

CSCS card - training provided for the right candidate, if needed. Experience of driving a van and towing a trailer. Experience of working in safety critical environment e.g., highways, traffic management or construction. Held a previous position doing manual and/or technical work. First Aid Training and awareness of Health & Safety.

Salary - 30,409.55 + Overtime
