Construction & Mechanics Tutor
Location: New Meaning Training - Warwickshire (Nuneaton Centre)
Hours: Full-time, Mon-Fri 07:30-15:30
Salary: From 23,540 FTE
Start Date: 1st August 2025
Closing date: 27 June 2025
Job Ref: WARCONMEC062501
Introduction
Do you have practical experience in both construction and mechanics--and a passion for passing on your knowledge to the next generation?
New Meaning Training (NMT) is looking for a Construction & Mechanics Tutor who can deliver engaging, hands-on sessions across both subject areas. This hybrid role is ideal for someone with a strong background in trades--whether that's site work, vehicle maintenance, or both--who's ready to inspire young people through practical learning.
Our learners are aged 16-25, many with EHCPs or other additional needs such as autism, ADHD, and anxiety. Some have had disrupted education and may lack confidence, but they thrive in supportive, practical learning environments where they can build skills for life and employment.
This is more than a teaching role--it's a chance to make a real difference. You'll work with small groups in a relaxed, non-traditional classroom, using real-world tasks to help learners gain qualifications, independence, and a sense of pride in what they can do.
If you've worked in a garage, on a building site, or led apprentices--or even if you've never taught before but are patient, empathetic, and hands-on--this could be the career change you've been waiting for. Training and support provided.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver practical, kinaesthetic sessions across both Construction Multiskills (e.g., carpentry, tiling, decorating) and Motor Mechanics (e.g., basic maintenance, diagnostics, tool safety)
Support learners in gaining functional skills and trade-related qualifications
Build strong, positive relationships with young people, adapting your approach to meet a wide range of needs
Use trauma-informed, relational strategies to manage behaviour supportively
Maintain accurate records of learner progress, attendance, and EHCP outcomes
Collaborate with LSAs and other tutors to share ideas and maintain a consistent, engaging programme
Create a safe, welcoming environment where learners feel respected, challenged, and motivated
Work with external agencies, parents/carers, and internal support services where appropriate
About Us
New Meaning Training (NMT) offers education with a difference. We are an alternative education provider dedicated to helping young people aged 15-25 discover their strengths and develop the confidence and skills to earn their own living.
For the 2025-2026 academic year, around 300 young people from Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands, and Berkshire will join one of our programmes. Many of these students are referred by secondary schools, pupil referral units, and Special Education Needs settings.
Our journey began in 2015 with the opening of our first centre in High Wycombe, originally known as "Toolshed." Ten years on, NMT continues to grow, with new centres planned for Nuneaton and Milton Keynes in September 2025.
Our NMT Warks centres offers five learning programmes: Construction Multiskills, Motor Mechanics, Creative Art & Design, Sports and Computing. They incorporate functional skills qualifications in Maths and English, along with tutorials to support our well-rounded approach. We also provide a 'Transition Support' programme for young people with EHCPs who are not yet ready for a learning setting.
NMT tailors its programmes to meet the needs of its learners, considering Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We comprehensively apply the principles of a Loving Care Approach (Trauma Informed Practice) to ensure all young people receive the support they need to thrive.
You will have:
A solid background in both construction and motor vehicle mechanics (formal qualifications not essential but advantageous)
Ideally, a Level 3 Award in Education & Training (or willingness to work towards it)
IOSH Working Safely certification (or willingness to obtain it)
Experience working with young people or in a training/mentoring capacity
Strong communication skills and a calm, confident manner
Patience, empathy, and an adaptable mindset
Confidence with planning and record keeping (training provided)
Understanding of, or willingness to learn about, SEND, trauma-informed practice, and youth safeguarding
Safeguarding and Additional Notes
All staff at NMT are expected to adhere to our policies and practices. This post is subject to a DBS check at the enhanced level. Learn more at www.gov.uk
