Inspire Mentoring is a dedicated organisation delivering high-quality alternative learning provision (ALP) and mentoring across Bristol and South Gloucestershire. We are an approved provider working with local authorities, schools, and alternative settings to support young people aged 8-18 through tailored 1:1 and group sessions.
We are now looking for a
Construction Mentor
to join our growing team -- someone with practical trade experience who can deliver accredited, hands-on sessions in
plastering, carpentry, or bricklaying
. You will support
Post-16 learners
based at our ALP sites in
Kingswood or Bedminster
(your choice of base).
Purpose of the Role
As a Construction Mentor, you will plan and deliver practical learning sessions, focused on building foundational trade skills in a safe, structured environment. The sessions will be accredited and approved, with support from our ALP Educational Lead. You'll work primarily with young people who are disengaged from mainstream education or require an alternative, vocational pathway to success.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver engaging, practical construction sessions (e.g. plastering, carpentry, bricklaying)
Provide 1:1 and small group mentoring tailored to individual learning needs
Support Post-16 ALP students in developing vocational skills and employability
Work with the ALP Educational Lead to ensure quality-assured, accredited delivery
Maintain a safe, inclusive, and productive learning environment
Support young people's social, emotional, and educational development
Foster positive relationships with young people and encourage personal growth
Promote good attendance, participation, and engagement in learning
Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating professional conduct and resilience
What We're Looking For
2+ years' experience
working with young people (e.g. mentoring, youth work, training)
Construction trade background
- experience in at least one of: plastering, carpentry, or bricklaying
Ability to plan and deliver structured, hands-on sessions
Confidence in working independently within an ALP base
Passion for supporting young people's development and helping them reach their potential
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people
Desirable (but not essential)
Experience delivering ASDAN or other accredited vocational programmes
First Aid and/or safeguarding training
Experience working in ALP, PRU, SEN, or NEET settings
