: This role is not suitable for online. This learner is a looked after child and needs support with Consturction tuition. He is 15 but as soon as he turns 16 wants to do his Level 1 in Health and Safety in Construction course to get his CSCS card. Until then, we can support with AQA Unit schemes or a tailored curriculum on construction incorporating necessary Maths and English. He is in a residential home in Hatfield. This young person has a primary need in Social, Emotional and Mental Health and is currently subject to a Child Protection Plan for neglect. They demonstrate clear strengths in practical, hands-on learning, particularly in areas such as bricklaying, carpentry, and cooking. They prefer quiet, one-to-one learning environments and respond positively to consistent adult relationships, especially with trusted male staff. Although disengaged with academic work--particularly reading and writing--they show potential in mathematics and have produced good work in vocational subjects.
Their reading ability is roughly age-appropriate, but spelling and language skills are significantly delayed, with social communication difficulties identified. They struggle to understand consequences, often challenge authority, and use inappropriate language, especially in group settings. Relationships with peers are limited and sometimes controlling, and they engage in risky behaviours, lacking awareness of potential harm.
They are awaiting assessments for autism and ADHD and show sensory sensitivities, particularly to noise and clothing textures. At home, they value routine and order, and become upset when this is disrupted. Despite previous exclusions and poor attendance, they have shown they can engage when learning is tailored to their strengths. With appropriate support and a vocational focus, they have the potential to make meaningful progress.
