Job Description


Applications are invited for a Consultant Radiologist to join a friendly and cohesive team of radiologists with diverse expertise in a busy department and a strong record in teaching and training. The applicant would be expected to join the existing radiologists in providing a comprehensive diagnostic radiology service and providing support for multidisciplinary meetings. The post-holder will also support the running of service in our main department at St George's Hospital.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be expected, in collaboration with the other radiologists in the department, to oversee and ensure the provision of high-quality clinical services within the Radiology Department. This would consist of providing a comprehensive diagnostic radiology service which includes general plain radiography,, CT, ultrasound, and MRI. Experience in leading imaging in chest multidisciplinary meetings is essential. In addition the post will contain cardiothoracic and cardiac diagnostic sessions and CT guided lung biopsy lists.
The successful applicant would take part in general on call and have participation in training and quality improvement activity would also be expected.
The post-holder will also participate in a full-time diagnostic on-call rota (approximately1:15), alongside regular weekend working (with time off in-lieu).
It is expected that applicants will have the Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists and a CCT in Radiology or equivalent training and experience.

We have a comprehensive range of paediatric medical and surgical specialist services supported by PICU and NICU and are a joint treatment centre for oncology with the Royal Marsden Hospital. The Trust is a designated level 1 Major Trauma Centre and has been granted Foundation Trust status.
Job description
Job responsibilities
A standard full-time Job Plan will contain 10 Programmed Activities which includes 8 PAs for direct clinical care and 2 supporting PAs. Sessions will be a mix of acute/emergency work and outpatient reporting. On-call commitment is required. This post also includes teaching of undergraduates and radiology registrars in the department.
The diagnostic on-call is overseen by a single consultant with the support of a second consultant radiologist on weekends. Each week on call and weekend working is compensated by time in lieu during the week. The post-holder can expect up to approximately 5 weekends (on-call/second consultant) per year. The department is currently exploring how to address 7 day working. In the future, further sessional working in the evenings and at the weekend on a rotational basis may also be required.
Each job plan will be reviewed within 3 months of appointment and will be subject to change. Whilst it is likely that most of the sessions will be based at St Georges, some evening working and lists at either the Nelson or Queen Marys Roehampton may be needed. Qualifications and training
Essential

  • Medical Degree
  • Full registration with GMC
  • CCT in radiology (or within 6 months at time of interview)
Experience
Essential
  • Reporting A& E, GP, inpatient and out- patient plain radiograph examinations
  • Reporting of MRI and CT examinations including general CT
  • Performing and reporting of general ultrasounds examinations
  • Ability to take full and independent clinical responsibility
Desirable
  • Experience of teaching undergraduates, postgraduates and trainee specialists
  • Experience in Lymphoma MDT
Skills
Essential
  • Basic biopsy and drainage procedures
  • Able to evaluate own radiological practice
  • Independent in general fluoroscopy (GI/GU)
Desirable
  • Experience in contrast ultrasound
  • Experience in CT colon reporting
  • Computer, PACS and VR software literate
Knowledge
Essential
  • Knowledge of legislation relating to radiology e.g. IR(ME)R 2000
  • Understand the principles of Clinical Governance
