This is a substantive consultant child & adolescent psychiatrist post which has arisen due to a staff vacancy. It offers a unique opportunity to join an established and dynamic team of 5 Consultant Psychiatrists in Croydon CAMHS, within South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.
The post holder will be based within the Croydon CAMHS Treatment Team, which focuses on the provision of specific evidence based interventions including CBT, family therapy, IPT and medical interventions such as antidepressants and stimulant medications . . The post will also include providing sessions to ARC (ADHD Medication Review Clinic).
There are five consultant child and adolescent psychiatrists in Croydon CAMHS (a total of 3.8 WTE). We have specialist interests in neurodevelopmental disorders, ADHD, Learning Disabilities and Crisis Care.
The successful applicant will also join the SLaM consultant CAMHS on-call rota (see On-call Section).
This post includes 7.5 PAs of direct clinical activity with the Croydon CAMHS Treatment Team with 2.5PAs of structured professional activities, during which the post holder will contribute to service development, clinical governance and quality improvement, in addition to completing continuous professional development and pursuing other professional activities.
Interventions are offered with a multi-disciplinary team approach drawing on a number of specialist therapeutic approaches including psychiatry, psychology, nursing, family therapy and varying psychotherapy models - such as CBT, psychotherapy, creative therapies and family therapy. The team has developed clear pathways of working together with other teams in the borough as well as national and specialist services in the directorate be it in-patient or outpatient.
Assessments are undertaken weekly within the team, with an assessment clinic running on a set day to enable broad MDT discussions of assessments. CAMHS practitioners generally hold caseloads of 30 children/young people. Consultant Psychiatrists are not generally first assessors or care coordinators, except for medication reviews in young people receiving consultant-only care. The expectation in the Trust is of a minimum of 3 direct clinical contacts per day averaged over the week.
