Job Description

Role Purpose Management of patients with Prostate and Bladder cancer receiving standard therapy including treatment decisions and ongoing care. Participating in all relevant aspects of clinical governance, including maintaining up to date protocols, guidelines and clinical audit Contributing to current research projects and establish new opportunities to expand and develop research within the team. Revision and development of evidence-based protocols for patients and undertaking the administrative duties associated with the care of their patients. Maintaining a level of continuing professional development consistent with the recommendations of the Royal College of Radiologists Actively contributing to the training of junior doctors and other multi-disciplinary team members in both in-patient and outpatient departments.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe appointee will be expected to develop a significant urology interest delivering both radiotherapy and systemic therapy. The post involves four clinics, two seeing new patients and two for complex follow up patients. At present any patients requiring intravenous systemic therapy attend the Christie site to receive this treatment. The post holder will join a large team of 11 Clinical Oncology consultants specialising in Urological cancer.



The appointee will serve the North East Sector MDT This will include attendance at the specialist Urology MDT. The North East Sector uro-oncology MDT service is an established team comprising of clinical oncologists, urologists (performing level 2 surgery), pathologists, radiologists and clinical nurse specialists in addition to an MDT Co-ordinator. The Clinical Oncology Urology group provide a comprehensive range of treatment options including VMAT/IGRT radiotherapy, LDR/HDR brachytherapy, prostate SABR, oligometastatic SABR and delivery of radionuclide therapies e.g. Ra223.



The provision of chemotherapy for prostate and urothelial cancers is also delivered by the clinical oncology team with renal cancer and testicular cancer systemic therapies undertaken by the medical oncology team. The appointee will primarily be based at The Christie with the expectation that one clinic will be held at one of our Christie @ locations and will provide input to the following areas of delivery: Outpatient clinics - Providing support with waiting times across Greater Manchester and Cheshire Radiotherapy and SACT Services Inpatient Services - primarily Wards 4, 11, 12, 14 and 15 and the Oncology Assessment Unit Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings Team meetings Radiotherapy Peer Review Educational meetings Audit Clinical Supervision- resident doctors Immunotherapy lead SABR The postholder will be expected to see approximately ~200-300 new patients per year.
