It is envisaged that the post holder will have clinical commitments in Lung Oncology, being actively involved in the disease group. The outpatient clinics will be held at the Christie Withington site and Royal Oldham. The appointee will be a member of the NE sector MDT. The appointee will be expected to develop a significant interest in Lung Oncology delivering radiotherapy including SABR and systemic therapy.The post holder will be one of 9 Clinical Oncology specialising in lung cancer and will be an active member of the MDT.
The Lung Consultant team is supported by 5 ANPs and 8 CNSs. The post holder will be actively involved in delivering all aspects of Radiotherapy including SABR. The post is also likely to deliver systemic therapy for NSCLC. The well supported team structure and ethos facilitates cross-cover of clinical work.
Training/mentorship can be provided if required, working along side qualified experienced Nursing, Physics and Radiographic colleagues. There is currently collaborative working within both the Lung Medical and Clinical Oncology research teams which the successful applicant will be expected to participate in.There are opportunities for involvement in technical radiotherapy including SABR, Protons and MR Linac. The team has a strong commitment to research and trial activity in which the appointee would be expected to be involved. The post holder is expected to take on leadership, training and management roles (for example metastatic cord compression lead).
The post holder is expected to help contribute to the development of a rapid palliative radiotherapy service in conjunction with an advance practitioner.The expectation is the new patient numbers will be up to 28- per year. This is likely to result in very low admission numbers and the post holder will be responsible for their own patients.The appointee will have office accommodation and access to secretarial support
