Job Description

This post is for 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week to provide oncology management and treatment within the Clinical Oncology Gynecological Disease Group.
The Clinical Oncologist appointed will work with the Clinical Oncology Gynae team to provide a comprehensive clinical service for their patients. This includes patients in the outpatient, inpatient and ambulatory settings, delivering Radiotherapy including Brachytherapy and Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) whilst also providing Clinical Oncology input to the Gynae MDTs.
The Gynae Disease Group is led by Dr Lisa Barraclough and currently consists of 3 Clinical Oncologists. These oncologists manage gynaecological cancers diagnosed within the Greater Manchester and Cheshire Cancer Network through MDTs and clinics, with some oncologists attending the radiotherapy satellite sites for their SIM sessions. Systemic therapy is delivered centrally or given to patients at peripheral or outreach clinics according to agreed protocols. Radiotherapy is delivered at The Christie or at our satellite units in Salford, Oldham and Macclesfield.
The group has an active gynae brachytherapy service and the team has a strong commitment to research and trial activity in which the appointee would be expected to be involved in.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will join a large team of 3 Clinical Oncology consultants specialising in Gynecological cancer specialising in clinical oncology and will be an active member of the MDT. They will receive referrals from all sectors of Greater Manchester and East Cheshire, as well as the area served by Preston Rosemere Cancer Centre.
The appointee will be primarily based at The Christie with one clinical session based at our Oldham Radiotherapy Satellite centre and will provide input into the following areas of service deliveryo Outpatient clinics - Providing support with waiting times across Greater Manchester and Cheshireo Radiotherapy, Brachytherapy and SACT Serviceso Inpatient Services - primarily Wards 11, 14,15, 4, BMRU and the Oncology Assessment Unito Multi-Disciplinary Team meetingso Team meetingso Educational meetingso Audit
The post holder will be actively involved in the development of the dedicated immunotherapy service. The group has an active gynae brachytherapy service. Expertise in brachytherapy is not essential, as on the job training will be available within SPA session if desired. The well supported team structure and ethos facilitates cross-cover of clinical work and brachytherapy theatre sessions, training/mentorship can be provided if required.
There is currently collaborative working within both the Gynae medical and clinical oncology research teams which the successful applicant will be expected to participate in.

Role Purpose The Clinical Oncologist appointed will work with the Clinical Oncology Gynae team to provide a comprehensive clinical service for their patients. This includes patients in the outpatient, inpatient and ambulatory settings, delivering Radiotherapy including Brachytherapy and Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) whilst also providing Clinical Oncology input to the Gynae MDTs. The Gynae Disease Group is led by Dr Lisa Barraclough and currently consists of 3 Clinical Oncologists. All Disease Group consultants work as part of a multi-disciplinary team supporting the delivery of this work including Nurse Clinicians/Advance Clinical Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Clinical Fellows, Specialist Trainees, Pharmacists and Research Nurses DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The role will be responsible for: Management of patients with Gynaecological cancer receiving standard therapy including treatment decisions and ongoing care. Participating in all relevant aspects of clinical governance, including maintaining up to date protocols, guidelines and clinical audit Contributing to current research projects and establish new opportunities to expand and develop research within the team. Revision and development of evidence-based protocols for patients and undertaking the administrative duties associated with the care of their patients. Maintaining a level of continuing professional development consistent with the recommendations of the Royal College of Radiologists Actively contributing to the training of junior doctors and other multi-disciplinary team members in both in-patient and outpatient departments. The post holder will be actively involved in the development of the dedicated immunotherapy service. The group has an active gynae brachytherapy service (delivering approximately 750 fractions per year). Expertise in brachytherapy is not essential, as on the job training will be available within SPA session if desired. The well supported team structure and ethos facilitates cross-cover of clinical work, including chemotherapy clinics and brachytherapy theatre sessions, training/mentorship can be provided if required. It is anticipated that the appointee will see approximately 150-200 new patients per annum. There is currently collaborative working within both the Gynae medical and clinical oncology research teams which the successful applicant will be expected to participate in. Job Plan Timetable The timetable below is indicative and will be confirmed on commencement in post. It is the requirement of the Trust that all new consultant colleagues must have 0.25 SPAs within their job plan to support Trust appraisal and supervision requirements. This can either be as appraiser or a supervisor for medical staff or Advanced clinical Practitioners.

On call Commitments This role does require participation in the on-call rota. This is a 1:20week rota and includes input to the acute admissions unit at the weekend.

  • RCR Fellowship of equivalent
  • GMC registration with a license to practice
  • Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) specialist register via one of the following: a.Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (the proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) b.Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR)
