Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent Community Paediatric Consultant 10 PAs, working within the Community Paediatric team in North East Essex (Colchester).



This post provides an excellent opportunity to join our enthusiastic and committed team, providing high quality health care to the local child population. The post is an exciting opportunity to contribute to service development and improvement as we seek to provide the best possible care to our patients.



Applications are invited for an enthusiastic and committed individual to join our friendly and dynamic Community Paediatric Team within Children's Services at Colchester Hospital, ESNEFT. We are a forward thinking department, active in research and passionate about improving services for our diverse population. The new doctor will join 4 community paediatric consultants and 4 associate specialists and two speciality doctors already working in the department as well as a team of specialist allied health professionals, including our Neurodevelopmental Nurses, ADHD nurses, specialist speech therapists, nursery nurses and health visitor.



Community Paediatrics also undertake outlier clinics in Special Schools within our catchment, and in Halstead, Clacton and Harwich.



The post-holder will undertake both neurodevelopmental and Neurobehavioural work with the aim of creating a balanced job plan including time for SPA.

General



This is a 10PA post but applicants with job share arrangements are welcome.



No Oncall Duties

Child development assessments

Participation in safeguarding clinic rota

Clinical supervision of Paediatric SpRs (core / higher trainees) and GP registrars

Area of special interest to be developed, experience of epilepsy and/or complex neurodisability is welcome



Mixed Neurobehavioural and neurodevelopmental caseload Initial Health Assessments for looked after children

Whilst the post-holder's duties will be primarily community based, safeguarding clinics and some community paediatric clinics are held within the Children's Outpatients Unit at Colchester Hospital. There is also the potential to hold other specialist clinics here, depending on the applicant's area of expertise.



The department actively supports continuing professional development of its staff - including any additional training needed to help achieve personal and professional goals.



Full GMC registration is required and Candidates are required to be up to date with Level 3 Safeguarding with at least 4 years post graduate training ideally with up to 12 months experience in community paediatrics. Eligible candidates should be registered with the GMC and have achieved qualification to the level of MRCPCH.



General Community Paediatrics



The service covers the entire range of community paediatric work including assessment and management of children with special and complex needs and Neurobehavioural disorders, looked after children, educational paediatrics, adoption and fostering and safeguarding.



The post-holder will undertake both neurodevelopmental and Neurobehavioural work with the aim of creating a balanced job plan including time for SPA



Area of Special Interest / Research



Applications from candidates who have a special interest that would complement or enhance our service portfolio (e.g neurodisability, neurobehavioural paediatrics, adoption & fostering, safeguarding etc) would be particularly welcome.
