1. Position Summary



The NHS Trust is seeking an experienced

Locum Consultant

to provide high-quality clinical care within its acute and community services. The postholder will support departmental clinical activity, contribute to multidisciplinary care, ensure patient safety, and uphold the Trust's clinical governance standards.

2. Specialties Covered (example list - adjust as needed)



The Trust may appoint Locum Consultants across the following specialties:

Acute Medicine General Internal Medicine General Surgery Trauma & Orthopaedics Anaesthetics & Critical Care Obstetrics & Gynaecology Paediatrics Radiology Psychiatry (General Adult, Older Adult, CAMHS) Cardiology Gastroenterology Respiratory Medicine Dermatology Neurology Ophthalmology ENT Urology

3. Key Responsibilities



Clinical Duties



Deliver safe and effective consultant-level care to inpatients and outpatients. Provide daily ward rounds, review patients, and participate in MDT meetings. Undertake outpatient clinics and procedural sessions relevant to specialty. Support emergency or on-call rotas where required. Ensure timely documentation, clinical coding, and discharge summaries.

Leadership & Teamwork



Supervise junior medical staff and contribute to their training. Liaise with nursing, allied health professionals, and management teams. Participate in clinical governance, audit, and quality-improvement projects.

Patient Safety & Quality



Adhere to Trust and national guidelines (NICE, GMC Good Medical Practice). Engage in incident reporting, risk management, and safeguarding.

4. Essential Requirements



Full GMC Registration

with a licence to practise.

GMC Specialist Registration

in relevant specialty (preferred / required depending on service need)*.
Extensive consultant-level experience within the UK or equivalent healthcare system. Competence in all aspects of the specialty, including acute and elective work. ALS/ATLS/ACLS or other specialty-specific certifications (desirable). Ability to start

immediately (ASAP)

.

5. Desirable Requirements



Previous NHS Consultant experience. Participation in teaching, research, and service development. Evidence of CPD in line with GMC revalidation requirements.

6. Working Pattern



Full-time or part-time considered. Sessions may include ward rounds, clinics, theatre lists, diagnostic work, admin time, and on-call duties (if required). Flexibility for short-term or long-term locum arrangements.

7. Additional Information



Competitive hourly or sessional rates in line with NHS locum frameworks. Support with onboarding, mandatory training, and pre-employment checks. Accommodation or travel support may be available depending on Trust policy.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 6 months

Pay: 95.00-120.00 per hour

Expected hours: 45 - 50 per week
