Job Description


This is a replacement post as an inpatient consultant in General Adult Psychiatry. The appointee will have the clinical responsibility for the care of male inpatients on the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) comprising of 11 beds.

We are looking for self-motivated, enthusiastic, forward-thinking individuals who can work within the Trust and with partners to develop a dynamic, responsive, and patient centred service.
Main duties of the job

The postholder will be providing clinical leadership for the MDT on the ward, leading ward and management rounds and undertaking relevant reviews of inpatients, supporting the bed management processes, and maintaining high quality care for the patients on the ward. They will actively support an effective interface with other wards, Crisis and Home treatment teams and the community teams when relevant, as well as other stakeholders such as in-reach mental health services in prison.

This is a strategically important post, as it enables dedicated consultant input into inpatient care and treatment, with the facility for frequent and flexible review of patients and timely discharge in liaison with CRHT and Community IPU\'s.

The post is based on a 10 PA job plan with 7.5 PAs in Direct Clinical Care and 2.5 PAs in Supporting Professional Activities. Participation in the Consultant Psychiatrist on-call rota is also expected at a frequency of around one in fifteen, with responsibility for both inpatient and community adult and older-adult patients.

Essential
  • A postgraduate qualification in Psychiatry e.g., Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists
  • GMC registration and inclusion on the specialist register in Mental Health
  • Eligible for Approved Clinician status and Approval under section 12 of the Mental Health Ac
  • A minimum of 6 years postgraduate experience in psychiatry including substantial training/experience in General Adult psychiatry in inpatient based settings.
