Applications are invited for the appointment of a dynamic and enthusiastic Consultant in Paediatrics at Frimley Health Foundation NHS Trust (at the Frimley Park Hospital site).

This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of 15 dedicated WTE Acute Paediatric Consultants.

Main duties of the job

This post is part of a team of 15 Consultants, supported by 14 middle grades and 16 juniors.

The responsibilities will include a combination of attending weeks on the general paediatric ward and Paediatric Assessment Unit and Neonatal Unit, with on call 1 in 12 for General Paediatrics and Neonates.

In addition, the successful applicant will be part of the Diabetes Team which includes 3 consultants with expertise in Diabetes, a cross site Matron, PDSNs, Dietician and a Psychologist (currently being recruited). The team is involved in regular quality improvement projects.

Job description
Job responsibilities

Each week we have two consultants attending, one for Paediatrics, and one for Neonates.

When Paediatric attending, the post holder will be responsible for the Paediatric Ward. When Neonatal attending, the post holder will be responsible for the Neonatal unit, and the babies on the Labour ward, postnatal wards and Transitional care.

The post includes a 12-hour Consultant presence in PAU, this also involves answering the GP hot phone to give advice and accept GP referrals until 6pm during week and supporting the Paediatric emergency department. All consultants participate in this rota.

The post holder will provide 8 weeks a year in the attending role.

When not on an attending week there will be 3 outpatient clinics per week. 2 of these will be Diabetes Clinics and the other will rotate between an urgent review/new patient clinic and follow up clinic.

There is an expectation that the post holder will attend the weekly Paediatric & Neonatal Grand Round when attending.

On call for out of hours consultant cover will be 1 in 12 covering both Paediatrics and neonates when on call the consultants are resident to 22.00, after the late handover with full middle grade cover.

At weekends the consultant is present for a minimum of 8 hours each day to comply with the Keogh recommendations.

Qualifications
Essential

  • MBBS and MRCPCH
  • Full GMC registration/on specialist register of GMC
  • NLS or APLS
Desirable
  • NLS / APLS Instructor status
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
  • Accreditation in HST in 5 years of Paediatrics or within 6 months of CCST
  • 12 months of tertiary diabetes experience
  • Diabetes RCPCH SPIN module
  • 6 months Tertiary Endocrine experience
Desirable
  • 6 months tertiary neonatology or equivalent experience
