Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) is inviting applications for a new Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry in North Wales. This development is a substantive, full time role, although applications for part time or job sharing will be considered.
The successful candidate will establish a Managed Clinical Network and lead our Community Dental Service Paediatric Dental Services, including the provision of care utilising Sedation and General Anaesthesia. Currently, we have a part time Specialist in this discipline supported by experienced dental teams, including Senior Dental Offers (some of whom have post graduate MSc qualifications in Paediatric Dentistry), experienced Dentists and Therapists (many of whom offer an inhalation sedation services) as well as a team of experienced Dental Nurses. We also benefit from quarterly visits from a Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry from Alder Hey Hospital to Holywell Community Hospital.
The new Consultant will be a member of the North Wales Oral Health Strategy Group which has membership from Community, Primary and Secondary Care. Joint clinics with Consultants from other disciplines is encouraged and a contribution to dental education and clinical attachments is expected. Clinics to facilitate smooth transitional arrangements for our vulnerable children to our Special Care Dentistry colleagues are envisaged.
To lead the north Wales Paediatric Dentistry Service in Community and Hospital based settings
To work closely with colleagues across North Wales to develop a Managed Clinical Network (MCN) in Paediatric Dentistry
To take part in and develop multi-disciplinary clinics with other dental specialties including orthodontics and restorative dentistry
To lead delivery of Paediatric Dental Sedation and Dental General Anaesthetic services within BCUHB
To lead and promote prevention, offered in primary care for children who have dental disease or are at significant risk of dental disease, within the Health Board area
Must be committed to improving standards in the quality of paediatric dental care provided within all branches of dental services in BCUHB, in line with the Operational Policy and Strategic Plan
To organise the delivery of domiciliary paediatric consultations where appropriate
May be required to cover for specialist / senior colleagues during periods of leave
To input to national and local paediatric oral health and targeted screening programmes as required.
