Consultant In Paediatric Nephrology

Birmingham, United Kingdom

Job Description

This is a full time 10 programmed activities (PA) substantive post to support service delivery, working with eight other Paediatric Nephrology Consultants, providing a comprehensive nephrology service to the West Midlands.
The appointee will share in the provision of a regional service including regular responsibility for emergency admissions, ward consultations, telephone advice, booked admissions for investigations and day cases
Main duties of the job
The appointee will share in the provision of a regional service including regular responsibility for emergency admissions, ward consultations, telephone advice, booked admissions for investigations and day cases. The appointee will also cover the acute haemodialysis unit queries which come up during their service week. The service weeks will be approximately 1:6 or about 8 weeks a year. During the service week, the on-call consultant has no regular clinic commitments, so will undertake business ward rounds every day. The service is purely for nephrology and covers the whole of the West Midlands and beyond. The post holder will be asked to undertake regular outreach clinics (around 1 per month) in one or more of several district general hospitals, alongside the local link general paediatrician.
The appointee will be required to do a variety of clinics. There will be a focus on Chronic Kidney Disease in this job role which will entail carrying out CKD clinics, particularly for patients with a failing transplant, but will also cut across the subspecialities for children coming up to transition. The department undertakes a number of subspeciality clinics, and the new post-holder will be expected to participate in these, particularly stone and tubulopathy clinics.
