Main duties of the job
The successful post-holder will be expected to contribute to the triaging of referrals and clinical assessment of referred patients. Some patients will be managed by developing and communicating a treatment plan which can be delivered by the referring primary care dental practitioner.
The Consultant will be involved, as appropriate, in undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education, in addition to the training of Resident hospital staff and will contribute to the training programme for Specialty Registrars and DCTs. There are a number of full and part-time junior NHS and academic clinical staff in resident grades who are involved in both clinical service and teaching of undergraduates and postgraduate students.
The post holder will be expected to give advice and assistance to members of the Resident staff and Specialty Dentists within the Department as the need and demand arises.
As a teaching unit, Birmingham Dental Hospital and School of Dentistry undertake a wide range of research activities for which excellent facilities are available. The duties of this post are primarily of a service nature and as such, no specific requirement to pursue research is included. An interested appointee, however, will be encouraged to pursue his or her interests, subject to the needs of the service and may be asked to participate in established clinical trial activities subject to appropriate training.
