About the role:
We are seeking a consultant Landscape Architect / Landscape Planner to join our Landscape Planning team who are at the forefront of landscape and seascape planning in the UK. You will have the opportunity to work with and learn from industry experts in a range of fields, which include:
Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA)
Landscape character assessment
Landscape sensitivity studies
Landscape planning research
Landscape design, mitigation, and implementation
Green infrastructure plans and implementation strategies
Green belt studies
Planning for future landscapes and responding to climate change
Landscape photography
You will be part of a friendly, award-winning multi-disciplinary team of Landscape Planners, Managers, Designers, Planners, Cultural Heritage Specialists and Ecologists at LUC, who are committed to high quality professional work with a strong emphasis on delivering sustainable and innovative solutions.
You will be involved with projects such as:
Landscape & Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA), often as part of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for a range of development types including renewable energy projects.
Routeing studies for electricity infrastructure projects.
Landscape character assessments for local planning authorities
Studies of landscape sensitivity for housing, employment and renewable energy development.
You will be involved in all stages of projects from tendering through to completion, providing support to senior staff, and often working collaboratively with other LUC and external teams. The work will include carrying out site assessments, report writing and production of graphics, with extensive opportunities to undertake landscape fieldwork across the UK and further afield.
This is a developmental role and therefore it is expected that, with experience, you will build on your skills and work towards carrying out the full range of responsibilities. LUC will offer support in this journey with training and one-to-one support where required. Whatever your stage of progress towards professional qualification, we will support and sponsor your Pathway to Chartership (P2C) with the Landscape Institute. This role will enable you to gain the breadth and variety of experience required, with opportunities to work with our landscape design team.
The role includes the opportunity to share and participate actively in the management and ownership of the business through the Employee Ownership Trust, which places full ownership of the company with the employees.
The role is based in LUC's offices in Bristol, Cardiff, London, Manchester or Sheffield. We work in a hybrid model with people being in the office a minimum of two days per week. There will also be travel required to visit sites, client offices and other office locations.
A full-time role is based on 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday). However, LUC has a strong track record in flexible working, and we have been recognised for our flexible working culture, so we are happy to discuss a range of flexible working options for this role including part time hours (minimum 30 hours per week) if desired.
Salary: 26,250 - 33,500 FTE (including London allowance if applicable), depending on skills and experience

An organised and efficient approach to completing work within tight deadlines is important, as is the ability to build effective relationships with colleagues and clients.
We would be particularly interested to hear from you if you have experience in the preparation of LVIAs, or have developed skills in other areas, but have obtained an understanding of the context and principles of LVIA and wider landscape planning related work.
Essential
Excellent oral and written communication skills
The ability to plan and structure reports well and convey information in a clear and concise manner.
An organised and efficient approach to completing work within tight deadlines
The ability to build effective relationships with colleagues and clients, often working within multidisciplinary teams.
A full clean diving licence and willingness to undertake fieldwork
Educated to degree or post graduate level from a landscape related field. However, as well as candidates with accredited landscape qualifications, we also welcome applications from candidates with planning, geography or similar related qualifications if you can demonstrate experience or understanding of the work and a passion for the subject.
Desirable
A good graphical hand and an awareness of landscape design skills would be an advantage but is not essential.
A knowledge of relevant software packages including ArcGIS, ReSoft Windfarm/ WindPRO, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and InDesign etc.) and SketchUp.
Experience of or an interest in learning competent photography skills.
