An Excellent opportunity for a substantive Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Colchester General Hospital with a special interest in benign and complex gynaecology.
Enthusiastic, motivated and committed Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with a passion for women's health are invited to apply for this role. The successful candidate will join a consultant team of 15 working a 1:12 on call rota. They will work alongside our existing benign gynaecology consultants who specialise in minimal access and robotic surgery. There will be plenty of opportunity for personal development in special interest areas as well as making transformational changes to the service to enhance the high level of care we offer our population.
As well as the Gynaecology aspects of the role, we are looking for an individual who possesses good Obstetric skills and can commit to the provision of Obstetric care and support the current consultants in the provision of the high risk Maternity Service. We would like to appoint an individual who can actively participate in all aspects of Clinical Governance for the department.
Applicants will have completed CCT or equivalent (CESR) and must be on the Specialist Register.
The successful candidate should have undertaken appropriate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and fulfil the criteria for admission to the specialist register.
Main duties of the job
CLINICAL
The key duties and responsibilities of the post will be:
Clinical and administrative responsibility for the proper functioning of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department
Develop standards, procedures and robust systems in the department to ensure safe, high quality and efficient patient care from the point of entry into the department to admission or discharge from the department
Supervision of the junior medical staff in the Unit who will have opportunity to learn on a one to one basis on both formal and informal rounds and also on ad hoc basis throughout the day
An active part in educational programmes for junior medical staff, including formal teaching sessions and clinical audits relevant to the needs of the Unit
To teach and train staff in other medical disciplines, nursing and support staff as appropriate
Maintain an up to date job plan and personal development plan
Register and participate in the appropriate CPD scheme with the RCOG
Issuing of advice to GPs on suitability of patients for admission to hospital
