If you are interested in a position of whole time or maximum part-time a Consultant in Acute Medicine this may be the perfect opportunity.An exciting opportunity has arisen to join and expand further our dynamic and well-respected Acute Medicine team here at Barnsley Hospital.The successful applicant(s) will join a team of ten consultants. Each member of the consultant team demonstrates clinical excellence, and each brings additional skills to the team, including research, teaching, education and management. Most importantly, the team work collaboratively together.Main duties of the jobThis is a substantive post and will support the expansion of services to meet activity and service specification demands as we move towards a 12 hour / 7-day AIM cover model and includes daytime work on the AMU, Short stay Unit (SSU) and Medical SDEC (Same day emergency care).This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the leading AMUs in the region offering exceptional support to pursue professional activities / sub specialty interests.Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be considered for the posts if such a person is appointed modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a Good CQC-rated Hospital with a vision to moving to Outstanding and joining only 7 other hospitals in the country with this rating.The current staffing is 10 Consultants 2 SAS doctors, 1 ST4-7, a mixture of CT3-6, CT1/GP VTS/F2 or F1 doctors and 6 full-time Physician Associates.The hospital is an associate teaching hospital of the University of Sheffield and the Emergency Department is actively involved in undergraduate medical education. Skills and Abilities
Essential

  • Willingness and ability to fulfil the key elements of the job description including the shift pattern required.
  • Possession of the clinical skills required to perform the job including acute medicine and general internal medicine.
  • Ability to cope with the demands of a DGH based Consultant.
  • Ability to lead and develop the service.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships on an individual, multi-professional and team basis with all levels of staff.
  • Ability and evidence of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Experience
Essential
  • Experience in the management of a broad Acute Medicine caseload.
Desirable
  • Current ALS certificate or equivalent.
  • Experience in a specialist interest that will complement those of other staff.
Management
Essential
  • Ability to work effectively and constructively with management.
Desirable
  • Evidence of formal management training.
Qualifications
Essential
  • MRCP or equivalent.
  • Full GMC registration, and proven skills and up-to-date experience in acute medicine OR
  • Full GMC registration, and within 12 months of specialist registration in Acute Medicine due to completion of training or within12 months of specialist registration in GIM with proven skills and up-to-date experience in acute medicine due to completion of training, or application via GMC CESR with the submission completed at time of interview in either case.
