We are looking for a highly experienced and driven
Consultant Psychiatrist
to join a leading mental health inpatient service in
Exeter, Devon
. You'll be part of a team dedicated to supporting
men and women with enduring mental health conditions
, including working with another full-time Consultant Psychiatrist and two Associate Specialists.
In this role, you'll manage care for up to 16 patients alongside a full multidisciplinary team (nursing, OT, psychology, social work) and provide strategic, evidence-based clinical leadership. You'll also work as part of the
second-tier on-call rota
, acting as the duty Responsible Clinician.
Key Responsibilities
Act as Responsible Clinician for designated patients
Manage complex psychiatric cases with detailed care plans
Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies/families
Lead and supervise the multidisciplinary team
Ensure compliance with the Mental Health Act and professional standards
Provide clinical input to policy development and service delivery
Participate in the hospital's second-tier on-call system
Provide cover for colleagues during leave (reciprocated)
Must-Have Qualifications
GMC registration
with licence to practise
Medical Degree
(e.g., MBBS, MBChB) from a GMC-approved institution
MRCPsych or equivalent
approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT)
Section 12(2) approval
and
Approved Clinician status
Minimum
2 years' experience
as a Consultant Psychiatrist (UK-based preferred)
Experience in
general adult psychiatry
in an inpatient or community setting
Familiarity with
risk assessment and risk management

36-42 hours/week
Shifts:
Based on hospital requirements (some roles may allow up to 2 days remote work)
Travel:
Minimal; onsite only
