This is a new substantive consultant psychiatrist post (10pa) within the North Cumbria Crisis and Home Treatment Team. If the postholder would prefer to work for fewer clinical sessions (8Pas) and develop a role in medical education (2Pas) there is flexibility for this, and therefore a very exciting opportunity to develop your professional interests.
The post holder is expected to have total DCC of 7.5 pa and 2.5 pa for SPA.
The post holder will provide clinical expertise in the assessment and treatment of individuals with complex mental health problems and what are termed as at-risk mental states. There is also opportunity to be part of developing ongoing changes within services in the region such as
Hope Haven the 24/7 hub which would be bring creative ways to working with other professionals and providing care for patients. The 24/7 hub will bring together a range of services under one roof while also working with the existing community service support. It is one of six pilot centres funded by NHS England and due to be launched in April 2025.
The Pears Cumbria School of Medicine (PCSM) which is also a new venture in the region between university of Cumbria and Imperial college London. The aim is to produce doctors committed to delivering cutting-edge healthcare approaches and serve the needs of the Cumbria community
North Cumbria Crisis and Home Treatment Team locality East team based at Carlisle and West team based at Whitehaven provide 24/7 triage, assessment, and home-based treatment for adolescents, adults, and older adults experiencing acute mental health crises. They operate an ageless, inclusive service with an open referral policy accepting self-referrals, professional referrals, and family referrals. The teams have a single point of access, directing referrals to three specialized pathways: children & young persons, adults, and older adults. Each pathway has a dedicated multidisciplinary team (MDT) with defined leadership and expertise. The West MDT includes specialist doctor, Nurse consultant, clinical nurse specialists, clinical leads, mental health nurses, occupational therapists, social workers, assistant practitioners, clinical support assistants, peer supporters, and access to medics. The East MDT additionally includes consultants, specialist doctors, foundation doctor and Core Trainee. The pathways collaborate overnight to provide continuous care.

This is a full time (10PA) post for an adult consultant psychiatrist to provide medical input into the North Cumbria community crisis and home treatment team. You will join a well-established medical team of senior consultants and specialist doctors to support the MDT. This is an ageless service with exciting and new opportunities of 24x7 hub in the region.
As a medical leader in the service, you will provide and supervise the reviews of patients taken on for home treatment and, as part of the MDT, be responsible for reviewing their progress through the course of home treatment. This will involve meeting with carers to support their roles. You will also provide support and consultative advice to the other clinicians in the service, supervision and support to doctors in training, more junior doctors, medical students and trainee nonmedical prescribers The role will involve liaison with inpatients, community, GPs and other multi-agency staff where appropriate.
