We are delighted to advertise this post as consultant psychiatrist in child and young person\'s eating disorders services based at the Acley Centre, Newton Aycliffe. This post is full-time but we would welcome conversations with potential applicants regarding flexible working options. It is a post which offers variety, clinical challenge and strong team working. Successful applicants would join a motivated, experienced and supportive multi-disciplinary team.

We would welcome applications from individuals interested in developing their academic careers. Job plans would be developed with suitable applicants.
Main duties of the job

The post holder is expected to hold a small caseload but also contribute to the care of other patients. The post holder will be responsible for delivery of mental health services up to a young persons 18th birthday for the population of County Durham and Darlington. The post would suit someone interested in generic out-patient/community CAMHS and a special interest in, or experience of working with, patients with Eating Disorders is required.

Caseload will reflect changing practice, in keeping with New Ways of Working.

The post holder will be expected to have a familiarity with important, relevant legislation affecting the care of young people. The post-holder will work closely with consultant and multi-disciplinary colleagues.

Formal programmed activities may be negotiated for additional and relevant special interests. The service aims to continue its academic tradition and opportunities will be made available for research and teaching activities and for continuing professional development. A formal academic session would be negotiable for a suitable candidate.

There is a need for a flexible pattern of working, which may change from time to time, depending on the demands on the various areas of the service. There will be a requirement to perform domiciliary and community visits as required.

  • Excellent knowledge of specialty.

  • Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training.

CPD & Appraisal
Essential
  • Participated in continuous professional development.
  • Evidence of annual appraisal and commitment to appraisal and revalidation.
Research, Audit & Quality Improvement

  • Participated in research or service evaluation.
  • Has actively participated in clinical audit.
Desirable
  • Shows commitment to quality through knowledge of quality improvement and lean thinking methodology OR able to achieve within one year of appointment.
Qualifications
Essential
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within 6 months of gaining CCT in General Adult Psychiatry
Desirable
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
  • MRCPsych.
  • Additional qualifications.
  • Approved Clinician Status and Section 12 Status OR be able to achieve within 3 months.
