We are looking for a compassionate, experienced Psychiatrist to join our dynamic team and help us provide personalised care to those who may benefit from medical cannabis therapy.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Assessment & Consultation:
Conduct thorough psychiatric assessments for patients seeking medical cannabis treatments, including detailed medical histories, psychological evaluations, and mental health assessments.
Treatment Planning:
Develop personalized treatment plans incorporating medical cannabis, taking into account patient history, symptom severity, and individual treatment goals.
Cannabis Therapy Management:
Prescribe medical cannabis where appropriate, ensuring patients understand the potential benefits, risks, and appropriate use of cannabis products. Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment as necessary.
Collaboration with Healthcare Team:
Work closely with other healthcare professionals, including Non-Medical Prescribers, and other Specialists, to provide holistic, patient-centered care.
Research & Evidence Review:
Stay current with the latest research and developments in medical cannabis treatments for mental health, as well as the legal framework and ethical considerations surrounding its use.
Patient Education:
Educate patients about the therapeutic use of medical cannabis, ensuring they understand dosing protocols, delivery methods, potential side effects, and expected outcomes.
Documentation & Record-Keeping:
Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in accordance with regulatory requirements and clinic policies.
Compliance:
Ensure all treatments comply with UK regulations regarding the prescription and use of medical cannabis, following the best practice guidelines set out by the General Medical Council (GMC) and the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Ongoing Support & Follow-Up:
Provide continuous monitoring and follow-up care, including regular reviews of treatment efficacy and patient well-being. Offer a supportive environment for patients adjusting to cannabis therapy.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
Full Registration with the General Medical Council Specialist Register
Experience with Medical Cannabis
(either direct experience or a strong interest in learning about the therapeutic use of cannabis).
Excellent Communication Skills
, with the ability to explain complex medical information to patients clearly and empathetically.
Strong
Clinical Decision-Making Skills
with the ability to tailor treatments to individual patient needs.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Confidentiality & Patient-Centered Care
is paramount, with a strong understanding of the importance of patient autonomy and informed consent.
Knowledge of
digital health tools
or willingness to adopt telemedicine practices is an advantage.
Experience in private practice or patient-focused healthcare
is desirable but not essential.
