About the role

Great Britain\'s electricity system is undergoing an ambitious, exciting and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, greener system, one that protects the planet and serves generations to come.

Consumers are fundamental to the energy transition. As we move from a centralised to a more decentralised system, consumers have an important role in the energy system. The main purpose of the role will be to own and manage the ongoing development and delivery of the ESO\'s Consumer strategy, enabling the ESO to work with other organisations to unlock consumer flexibility To provide leadership and line management to the Consumer strategy team.

We already operate the fastest decarbonising electricity system in the world, with an ambition for zero carbon operation by 2025. And by 2035, we want to run 100% clean, green energy, all the time.

Becoming the Energy Future System Operator

As you may have seen the Government and Ofgem have asked the ESO to take on new roles and responsibilities

Becoming the Energy Future System Operator is a critical step to help deliver a reliable and clean energy transition for all. The ESO, including all of its existing roles, will be at the heart of the new Future System Operator, taking on additional roles with a whole energy system mindset to drive progress towards net zero while maintaining energy security and minimising costs for consumers.

The new organisation will be set up as a public corporation with operational independence from government - bringing parties together to support optimised decision making and action. As now, it will be licenced and regulated by Ofgem through price control agreements. It is anticipated that the new organisation will be up and running by or in 2024.

About you

In this case, we\'re looking for someone who can:

  • Promote and facilitate greater understanding of consumers and pro-actively contribute/influence and act as the voice of the consumer in policy setting
  • Embed consumer-focused outcomes in business culture, processes and governance
  • Support the ongoing drive to enrich data sources and insights within the wider Customer Transformation team and across the ESO
  • Identify and facilitate the partnership opportunity with consumer organisations as appropriate to support messaging about the energy transition and consumer decarbonisation
  • Undertake research, consultation and coordination with consumer panels and groups to provide insight to other ESO publications and deliverables e.g. FES publication and Bridging the Gap
What you\'ll get

A competitive salary between \xc2\xa352000 -\xc2\xa372000 dependent on capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus of up to 15% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. Key Accountabilities

You will work across the ESO to:
  • Inform and educate on the consumer strategy and the outcomes the ESO is driving
  • Deliver the promotion and facilitate greater understanding of consumers, their needs, and behaviours, through comms and training programmes demonstrating in-depth knowledge and insight into the segment
  • Own the mapping/landscape of consumer interaction points and behaviours across the energy ecosystem to understand where the ESO can influence and support
  • Support the articulation of the role of Consumers and the potential value that can be unlocked in wider Flexibility services working with key teams across the business
What you\'ll need
  • Understanding of the energy market and transition, the opportunities and challenges involved, and the role of consumers in a flexible energy system.
  • Experience in turning Strategy into execution, continuous performance tracking and results reporting (KPI and metric driven)
  • Stakeholder identification, mapping, engagement, and relationship management
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of consumer experience through the articulation of customer journeys
  • Consumer research and insight development
