Job description



Background:



You will be working with the team at the Solent Stevedores Container Terminal in the Port of London Gateway



This role will be an Estimator working with the container maintenance and repair team. The Container Estimator is responsible for the inspection and grading of incoming containers, creating accurate repair cost estimates for damaged units, and ensuring compliance with health and safety policies. This role plays a key part in the smooth operation of a container depot by providing clear instructions for repair work and managing traffic flow

There is one full time role available. This role is day shift 11.00- 19.00hrs

Key Responsibilities



Inspection and assessment:

Inspect all incoming containers to determine their status, grade, and any damage. Provide detailed reports on findings.

Estimating:

Prepare accurate and detailed repair cost estimates for damaged containers, including providing photographic evidence of damage.

Documentation:

Maintain accurate records of container inspections and estimates.

Coordination:

Communicate with and provide instructions to other staff, such as ECH (Empty Container Handler) operators, to ensure efficient workflow and meet operational requirements.

Safety and compliance:

Adhere to all company health and safety policies and procedures.

Traffic management:

Help control the flow of traffic within the depot to ensure efficiency and safety.

Small repairs:

Removing dunnage, wash etc

Skills and Qualifications



Attention to detail:

Meticulous and observant to ensure accuracy in assessments and estimations.

Technical knowledge:

Ability to conduct thorough inspections and understand container specifications.

Communication:

Strong written and verbal communication skills to provide clear reports and instructions.

Analytical skills:

Ability to analyse factors affecting costs, materials, and labour.

Computer literacy:

Proficient with necessary software for documentation and estimating.

Physical fitness:

Ability to work in a depot environment and perform physical tasks associated with inspecting containers.

Organizational skills:

Ability to manage a workload, prioritize tasks, and maintain excellent records.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: 15.26 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
