Job Description

Climate News Tracker, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to tracking climate change

coverage in broadcast and digital news, is seeking Content Analysts to join our small team. Our

work will help enhance the prominence and effectiveness of climate change news that makes

audiences feel informed, motivated and hopeful.



This role is ideal for recent graduates, someone keen to develop data skills useful to

broadcast and digital insights teams, or is passionate about how we tell the biggest story of

our time.



The ideal candidate will have an understanding of analytics, data visualisation, and the media

industry.



About Us:

Climate News Tracker, created by journalists, collaborates with

Exeter University's Centre for Climate Communications and Data Science (C3DS) to track,

analyse, and improve climate news coverage across TV, radio, and online platforms. We use

AI-based tools to monitor climate stories, and collaborate with news editors and journalists to

enhance their climate reporting and audience engagement. Please visit our website



Role Responsibilities:



Track and analyse climate news coverage using AI-powered tools and commercial search

software.



Organise, interpret, and present quantitative data to identify insights.



Analyse the framing of major climate topics (e.g., net zero, extreme weather events).



Key Tasks:



Daily tracking and reporting of general climate news coverage.



In-depth analysis of coverage of major events.



Identifying missed opportunities for connecting climate impacts to broader issues.



Essential Skills:



Excellent statistical knowledge and ability to solve complex problems using data.



Strong analytical and research abilities.



Excellent writing and data communication skills.



Familiarity with data visualisation tools.



Excellent Excel/Google Sheets skills and experience of working with large data sets



Attention to detail.



Desirable Skills:



Practical experience of using tools and languages to analyse and manipulate data



Experience or knowledge of broadcast or digital newsrooms.



Knowledge of climate change, biodiversity, and energy transition.



Logical approach and problem-solving skills



Ability to work independently



Location & Hours:

This is a full-time, London based position with

occasional UK travel. While initially fully remote, we will move to a hybrid model with a mix

of in-office days and remote work days. The contract duration is a minimum of 6 months to 1

year. You must have the right to work in the UK.
