As a part of our team, you will play a key role in shaping IGEM's voice across print and digital platforms. You will support the Editor in delivering the IGEM journal Gas International (Gi) and lead on the planning, creation and delivery of content across our wider suite of publications, digital channels and communications.
Based from our office in Kegworth and with hybrid working, you'll be responsible for sourcing, drafting, editing and delivering creative copy for use across media, social, email and digital channels. You will also act as Editor for our sector-specific sister publication Gas Utilisation (Gu) and lead content delivery for annual publications such as the Gas Awards Winners' Brochure and the Annual Review.
This role requires an experienced and confident communicator who can produce compelling, accurate and engaging content to support our members and promote IGEM's activities.
You'll play a central role in driving member engagement and supporting IGEM's marketing communications campaigns by producing high-quality content across web, email and social platforms, while also leading the content for in-house supplements, annual publications and reviews as required.
You'll also demonstrate excellent verbal and written skills, which will be essential when communicating with IGEM stakeholders and the other members of your team.
1. Key Responsibilities
Editorial
Support the Editor in the production and delivery of IGEM's journal Gi(10 editions per year) and any ad-hoc supplements produced throughout the year.
Act as Editor for IGEM's sector-specific sister publication Gas Utilisation (Gu*). Lead content creation for IGEM's marketing publications (e.g. Awards Brochure, Annual Review).
Coordinate with contributors, internal stakeholders and external suppliers to produce high-quality editorial content.
Proofread and edit marketing and publication copy to ensure accuracy, clarity and consistency in accordance with IGEM's brand and tone of voice guidelines.
Report on IGEM's activities (conferences, events, etc.,) and produce content for publication across print and digital media.
Content Leadership
Lead the planning and delivery of Gi, Gu and Historic Gas Times (HGT*) content across IGEM's website, email marketing and social media. Work with the marketing team to plan and create compelling copy for digital use, including articles, email campaigns and press releases.
Maintain and optimise website content for clarity, accuracy and SEO.
Develop segmented, GDPR compliant email newsletters for Gi, Gu and HGTwith strong subject lines and click-through rates.
Create case studies, interviews, and member stories to enhance the visibility of IGEM's offering.
Analytics and Coordination
Monitor and report on the performance of email, web and social media content.
Liaise with suppliers and freelancers, including designers and printers, to ensure timely delivery of publications and marketing assets where necessary.
Collaborate with subject matter experts and volunteers to ensure factual accuracy and sector relevance in all materials.
Supporting Activities
Collaborate and brief with third-parties, as required.
Liaise with volunteers to garner support, testimonial or otherwise for marketing and promotional activities.
Produce content that supports IGEM's strategic goals around membership growth, engagement, standards promotion and events.
Other
To undertake any other additional duties as commensurate with the role or as directed by the line manager.
To commute reliably to the office base and to travel, as required, to meet the needs of the business.
There may be requirement to flexibly work additional hours on occasion.
2. Qualifications and skills
A relevant qualification in writing, marketing, communications (including digital) or journalism
A minimum of two years' experience working in a relevant role
Previous experience of planning, marketing and social media.
Essential
Portfolio of work showing your creative writing ability
In-depth understanding of social media platforms
Experience of creating and writing social media posts that engage audiences. Membership engagement experience is of particular interest.
Desirable
Experience in web design, experience with a content management system is desirable.
Experience of working for a Chartered Institute, charity, professional body, trade association or membership organisation
Experience working with Google Analytics, ad-words, PPC, and CPC would be an advantage.
