Purpose of the engagement



Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and Industry has supported, connected, and represented businesses across our ambitious and diverse city for over 160 years. As we enter 2026, we are launching several key projects to elevate our marketing activity and strengthen our customer journeys.

To support this work, we are seeking an experienced freelance Content Writer to provide specialist content support as part of a time-limited communications campaign. The contractor will work in collaboration with the marketing and project teams to develop clear, engaging, and strategically aligned content, ensuring messaging is consistent, audience-focused, and reflective of the Sheffield Chamber brand voice.

Communications campaign to support member attraction and retention



The contractor will be engaged to support the delivery of a time-limited communications campaign focused on member attraction, engagement, and retention. The engagement will involve the development of clear, engaging, and audience-focused written content that can be applied consistently across multiple channels and touchpoints.

Indicative outputs may include:

Email communications

to support automated and campaign-led journeys, including:

Lead nurture and prospect conversion messaging Member engagement and value-delivery communications Upsell, cross-sell, and service promotion messaging Lapsed member re-engagement and win-back communications

Website content

to support the membership journey and priority services, which may include:

Membership value proposition and onboarding content Selected service and departmental pages (e.g. Events, Workforce Development, Partnerships, Policy, International Trade) SEO-aware and accessible copy Review, refinement, and improvement of existing content

Sales and promotional content

designed for reuse across multiple channels, including:

Core campaign messaging Short-form sales and promotional copy Adaptable content blocks for use across digital, print, and event materials
The emphasis of the engagement is on developing consistent core messaging that can be adapted across formats while maintaining a strong and coherent narrative aligned to Sheffield Chamber's brand and membership objectives.

Final outputs and priorities will be agreed in advance and aligned to the available contract days.

Required experience and capabilities



Demonstrated experience producing written content for digital channels, including websites and email campaigns Ability to adapt messaging for different audiences and objectives (e.g. engagement, conversion, awareness) Experience collaborating with marketing teams, designers, and other stakeholders Strong capability in writing within a defined brand voice and tone of voice Confidence in gathering information from stakeholders and translating it into clear, compelling content

Desirable experience



Experience working with membership organisations, non-profit settings, or community-focused environments Understanding of user journey mapping and automated email flows Working knowledge of SEO principles and web content best practice Familiarity with CRM or email platforms (e.g. Dotdigital, Microsoft Dynamics)

Additional information



Equipment:

The contractor will be required to provide their own IT equipment. Access to shared documents and systems will be provided as required.

Collaboration:

The engagement will involve collaboration with the Sheffield-based team, with

in-person meetings anticipated as required

during the contract period.

Contract value:

The contractor will be engaged for up to 21 days between 19 January and 31 March 2026, at a rate of 250 per day (inclusive of VAT).

Payment will be made against invoices submitted by the contractor, in line with Sheffield Chamber's standard payment terms.

Contract term:

Monday 19 January 2026 to 31 March 2026.

This engagement is offered on a self-employed / freelance contractor basis and does not constitute a PAYE or fixed-term employment position. The successful contractor will be responsible for their own tax, National Insurance, and VAT (where applicable).

Pay: Up to 250.00 per day

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Sheffield S1 3FZ
