Mallaghan was founded in the 1960s by Terry Mallaghan as a civil engineering firm and has since evolved into a global engineering-led manufacturer of Ground Support Equipment for the aviation industry. This growth has been driven by a strong culture of engineering excellence, continuous improvement, and customer-focused design.
Today, Mallaghan designs and manufactures a wide portfolio of specialist GSE, including hi-lifts, aircraft maintenance platforms, passenger stairs, and deicing equipment. Our engineering teams work closely with customers to develop robust, high-performance solutions that meet demanding operational and regulatory requirements.
Headquartered in Dungannon, Northern Ireland, with an additional manufacturing facility in Newnan, Georgia (USA), Mallaghan employs over 500 people worldwide. Led by Ronan and Niall Mallaghan, the business continues to invest heavily in engineering capability, advanced manufacturing processes, and sustainable technologies to support the future of aviation ground operations.
Overview and Purpose of the Role
This role is central to supporting Mallaghan's position as an engineering-led GSE manufacturer, delivering high-quality, reliable products through efficient and controlled manufacturing processes.
The successful candidate will work closely with production, quality, and engineering teams to identify root causes of manufacturing and quality issues, implement sustainable engineering solutions, and drive continuous improvement across the factory.
This is a practical, hands-on, workshop-based engineering role, requiring strong engagement with shop floor operations and cross-functional teams rather than a purely desk-based approach.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for:
Leading and supporting engineering-led improvement projects aimed at increasing manufacturing efficiency, throughput, and capacity
Analysing existing production processes and implementing engineering solutions aligned with the company's manufacturing systems strategy
Developing and standardising quality assurance procedures, specifications, and control plans to ensure repeatable, high-quality output
Working cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, design, and supply chain teams to resolve complex production and quality issues
Identifying, justifying, and implementing process changes using data-driven and structured problem-solving methodologies
Driving best practice in manufacturing engineering, benchmarking both internally and externally
Embedding a "right-first-time" engineering culture through process control, standard work, and accountability
Supporting the development of an organisation-wide continuous improvement framework
Applying systematic problem-solving tools to address output, rework, and quality defects within manufacturing
Delivering hands-on coaching and training to shop floor personnel on new processes, tooling, and improvement methodologies
Supporting production teams with engineering input to resolve build issues, deviations, and non-conformances
Maintaining awareness of emerging manufacturing technologies, lean tools, and efficiency-driven engineering approaches
Ensuring compliance with ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems and ISO 45001 Health & Safety Management Systems
