Control Panel Technician

Chippenham, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

We are now looking to fill this permanent position to be based at our Head Office in Chippenham.

HUBER Technology is an "Investors in People" Gold company which specialises in environmental engineering throughout the world, and with a UK operation based in Chippenham focused on delivering wastewater treatment solutions for the UK water industry.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, we are looking for a Control Panel Technician to join our small, supportive team working on a range of wastewater treatment projects. In this role, you will build various types of automation control panels designed by our in-house design team to water industry standards.

This is an exciting opportunity for hands-on experience with automation projects, working alongside skilled engineers to build control panels for industrial machinery within the water industry, contributing to real-world solutions that help protect the environment.

What you will do:

Build and wire electrical control panels used in machinery automation to a high standard of quality and accuracy. Work from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, general arrangement (GA) drawings, and bills of materials. Fit and wire PLCs, I/O modules, HMIs, VSDs (Variable Speed Drives), safety relays, and signal conditioning devices according to control specifications. Cut, strip, crimp, and terminate wires using correct tools and techniques, following project specifications. Work in compliance with relevant wiring standards. Work closely with electrical design engineers, test personnel, and team leads to ensure accurate builds. Record as-built wiring changes, highlight discrepancies in drawings, and feedback improvements to the designers.
What you will bring:

Hands-on Experience: Proven ability to wire control panels from electrical schematics and layout drawings. Schematic Interpretation: Confident in reading and understanding wiring diagrams, terminal schedules, and general arrangement drawings. Wiring Skills: Neat, accurate, and consistent wiring using crimped terminals, ferrules, and cable management (trunking, bundling, etc.). Component Knowledge: Familiarity with devices such as relays, contactors, PLCs, MCBs, power supplies, and terminal blocks. Tools Proficiency: Skilled with standard panel-building tools (cutters, crimpers, screwdrivers, drills etc). Attention to Detail: Ensures all labels, terminations, and panel layouts meet project and safety standards. Team Collaboration: Able to work from instructions, ask for clarification when needed, and communicate effectively with design engineers and supervisors.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on electrical work, takes pride in neat and accurate wiring, and wants to build automation systems. It's perfect for someone with a panel wiring background who is eager to learn, work from schematics, and grow their skills in control panel assembly within an engineering company.

We offer an interesting role that provides ownership, a competitive salary and benefits package as well as sound development opportunities in an organisation that has strong core values and where people matter to help to protect and enhance the environment.
