The CCTV Control Room Operative is responsible for monitoring, operating, and maintaining surveillance equipment to ensure the safety and security of premises, assets, staff, and visitors. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent observational skills, and the ability to respond swiftly and professionally to incidents.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor live CCTV feeds, alarms, and security systems to identify unusual or suspicious activity.
Operate and control surveillance equipment, including cameras, access control systems, and communication tools.
Respond promptly to security incidents, escalating when necessary to management, emergency services, or onsite teams.
Maintain accurate logs, incident reports, and evidence documentation in line with organisational policies and regulatory requirements.
Support investigations by reviewing and retrieving recorded footage as authorised.
Work closely with onsite security officers, supervisors, and external agencies when required.
Ensure all equipment is functioning correctly; report faults and coordinate repairs or maintenance.
Follow established operating procedures, health & safety guidelines, and data protection regulations (including GDPR).
Protect the confidentiality and integrity of all surveillance data at all times.
Assist in emergency situations such as fire alarms, access breaches, or evacuation procedures.
Skills & Requirements
Previous experience in a CCTV control room or security environment is preferred.
Valid SIA CCTV (Public Space Surveillance) license (or willingness to obtain).
Strong observational skills with the ability to identify potential risks quickly.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to remain calm, focused, and professional in high-pressure situations.
Good IT literacy and familiarity with CCTV software and reporting systems.
High level of integrity, reliability, and personal responsibility.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Flexibility to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays if required.
