The Control Systems Engineer will ensure the reliability, security, and optimisation of critical real-time operational systems that support the safety and efficiency of the Channel Tunnel infrastructure. These bespoke systems include Rail Traffic Management, Engineering Management, Tunnel Fire Detection, Terminal Access Control, Terminal Traffic Management, Video Surveillance, WindAlert, Icecast, and associated networks, operating 24/7. This role is safety-critical and requires strong technical expertise combined with a proactive and collaborative approach.
Maintain and optimise real-time control systems to ensure maximum availability, integrity, and compliance with safety and security standards.
Lead and support system upgrades, migrations, and future-proofing projects, including creating functional specifications and technical documentation.
Collaborate with Operations, Security, and Engineering teams to investigate incidents, define system changes, and produce reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues promptly to minimise operational disruption.
Provide second-line technical support for major outages and complex problems, working with colleagues and suppliers.
Perform system administration tasks such as backups, security management, and configuration control.
Deliver training and technical support to engineering, maintenance, and operations teams.
Supervise subcontractors and consultants, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
Participate in audits, safety inspections, and manage maintenance support contracts for critical applications.
Adhere to Health & Safety and operational procedures, reporting incidents and supporting continuous improvement.
Contribute to a positive and inclusive team culture.
