We are seeking a highly skilled Controls Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. The Controls Engineer will use a combination of electrical, electronic, mechanical, and software engineering skills to support and enhance Motion Control Products' automation and motion control solutions and will play an active role in mentoring and supporting engineering apprentices. The role involves reviewing existing designs and processes, recommending improvements, and contributing to the development of new products and customer projects, while maintaining a strong awareness of Health & Safety requirements.
Duties
Design, develop and enhance control systems for industrial automation and motion control projects
Produce and maintain technical documentation, including specifications, test procedures, and user manuals
Identify weaknesses or improvement opportunities in existing products, production processes, or customer systems and make practical recommendations
Integration of motion control components such as servo drives, motors, encoders, and I/O
Selecting the required tools and materials for the manufacturing process.
Ensure control system designs consider Health & Safety requirements, risk assessments, and safe operating practices
Act as a technical mentor for engineering apprentices, providing guidance, support, and day-to-day supervision, and assist with their training, development plans, and onboarding.
Provide technical support to customers and internal sales team.
Conduct research into new technologies, document findings, and present reports internally
Working on specific customer and internal engineering projects, from concept through to commissioning and support
Comply with company policies, procedures, and Health & Safety regulations at all times.
Requirements
Solid technical background with good electrical/electronic and control systems knowledge
Software experience in C++/C sharp and Python
Experience with Codesys and IoT concepts
Clear and effective communication skills
Sound judgement and practical problem-solving ability
Strong organisational and time-management skills
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Analytical mindset with attention to detail
Resilience, tenacity, and a proactive approach to work
Degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Automation, or Controls Engineering, or equivalent experience
Apprenticeship or additional technical courses advantageous
Strong mathematical, analytical, and creative thinking skills
Ability to work on own initiative with a genuine interest in engineering and automation
