About The Role




Purpose of the Role


The Cook plays a vital role in creating a warm, welcoming, and homely environment where meals are the highlight of the day. Working at the heart of the home, the Cook ensures that every dish is prepared with care, nutritional balance, and creativity -- promoting health, comfort, and enjoyment for every resident.


Key Responsibilities


Plan, prepare, and serve well-balanced, home-cooked meals that meet residents' nutritional, cultural, and personal preferences.


Ensure variety and creativity in menu planning, including seasonal dishes and special events or celebrations.


Engage with residents to learn their favorite meals, incorporate their feedback, and make dining an enjoyable social experience.


Maintain high food safety standards, adhering to HACCP, Food Standards Scotland guidance, and internal quality checks.


Support special dietary needs, including modified textures, allergens, and medical or cultural requirements.


Oversee kitchen operations -- stock control, ordering, and maintaining cleanliness and organisation at all times.


Collaborate with the care team, ensuring mealtimes are well coordinated and residents receive the right meals in the right way.


Lead by example, fostering a positive, person-centred, and inclusive kitchen culture.


Skills and Attributes


Passion for cooking and hospitality -- creating food that feels like home.


Warm, caring, and approachable nature with excellent communication skills.


Good organisational and time-management abilities.


Understanding of nutrition and the needs of older people.


Knowledge of food hygiene, allergens, and safety regulations.


Ability to work flexibly and as part of a supportive care community team.


Qualifications and Experience


Experience as a Cook or Chef, ideally within a care, hospitality, or similar environment.


Food Hygiene Level 2 (minimum) -- Level 3 desirable.


Awareness of IDDSI (International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative) and modified diet preparation preferred (training available).
