Job Description

Okehampton youth hostel is based on Dartmoor just 30 miles from Exeter. Our kitchen caters for school groups on a set servery menu plus an al a carte for families.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and hardworking individual to be responsible for the daily catering for our guests. This position would be ideal for a capable & committed chef who enjoys job variety in a busy working environment while effectively delivering great customer service ensuring a positive experience.

What you'll be doing:



This is a full time position consisting of 5 days on and 2 days off. With shifts between 12.00-21.00. Monday-Friday Prepare, cook, plate and serve fresh food taking responsibility for leading the preparation and delivery to agreed YHA standards. Engage with guests to ensure all deity requirements are met. You'll have responsibility for the achievement of targets maximising profit and minimising waste. You will have management responsibility for team members with in kitchen service. Support the hostel to achieve its KPI's and deliver an excellent customer experience. Manage kitchen ordering All health and safety recording for the kitchen. Drive all sales opportunities promoting catering within the hostel to generate revenue. Comply with Food Hygiene standards and regulations as directed. Support on good practice for all Food Hygiene and health and safety standards / regulations by ensuring all standards are complied with and all kitchen checks are completed accurately and on time. Proactively review customer feedback seeking opportunities to improve the overall customer experience. Positively support the manager, contribute to new ideas and areas for improvement to the overall product and service within the hostel, including exploring business development opportunities to generate revenue within the F&B function.

What we're looking for:



Previous experience of working within the hospitality industry and a commercial kitchen.

Demonstrate previous experience of running a dinner service.

Thrives under pressure and is able to adapt to busy working demands.

Good self-motivation and organizational skills.

Experience of working in a customer focused role.

Able to establishes customer needs building rapports and giving cheerful helpful service.

Works cooperatively with others and able to manage a small team.

Current working knowledge of health & safety/food hygiene procedures.

Suitable candidates will be expected to have a flexible attitude to work to suit our business varied workload and working times.

Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
