Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Cook to join our team. As a Cook in a care home environment, you will report to the Kitchen Manager and be responsible for overseeing the kitchen operations, preparing delicious meals, and ensuring food safety standards are met. Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook meals according to recipes and menu specifications
- Ensure food is prepared in a timely manner and meets quality standards
- Collaborate with the kitchen staff to plan and execute daily meal preparation
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment
- Adhere to food safety and sanitation regulations
- Willing to train and mentor junior kitchen staff members
- Assist in menu planning and development
Skills:
- Culinary expertise with a strong knowledge of various cooking techniques
- Proficient in food safety practices and regulations
- Excellent meal preparation skills, including knowledge of different cuisines
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Strong leadership skills to effectively manage day-to-day kitchen operations
- Attention to detail and ability to maintain high-quality standards
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Cook in a care home environment or similar setting
-Knowledge of Speech and Language Food Recommendations - International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI)
- Minimum of 1-year recent paid employment within a catering setting
- Culinary degree (NVQ Level 2 or 3 or equivalent) or relevant certification is preferred
-Food Hygiene Certificate 1 & 2, knowledge of Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP)
- Knowledge of kitchen equipment and utensils
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
