We are looking for an experienced cook who is passionate about ensuring that every child has the opportunity to enjoy a healthy school meal. You should be confident in preparing, cooking and serving lunches to children and staff across our campus. The successful applicant will demonstrate an ability to work flexibly within a busy team, participating in the smooth running of all operations and assisting in all aspects of the day to day duties in the kitchen.

Main responsibilities:

To be responsible for the day to day food production in line with the daily menu requirements, nutritional guidelines and food hygiene regulations. Demonstrate a level of practical food knowledge that incorporates both contemporary and traditional food. Staying up to date with cooking techniques, equipment training to ensure high quality meals are prepared every time. To ensure food produced for service is presented on time, to required temperatures and attractive to the customer. Be ready to serve on time, promoting main meals and all products in a polite, friendly and courteous manner and keep counters clean during service. To keep the kitchen and storage areas clean. To work with the team in cleaning all dishes and serving utensils. Attend all meeting and training courses as required. Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements in respect of hygiene, health and safety, school policies, procedures and regulations, and Catering Service's Codes of Practice policies and procedures. Work together with the Catering Manager on the implementation of new, unique, nutritiously balanced food, menus and ideas, theme days and then train and empower the catering personnel to produce and deliver to a high standard. Inspire and motivate other catering team members by demonstrating excellent team work and sharing good practice. To prepare food for and assist in all school event catering. To comply with the school's Health & Safety Policy, and undertake risk assessments as appropriate.


You will need:

A good standard of literacy and numeracy skill. Grade 4 or equivalent in English & Maths A food hygiene qualification (Level 2 or equivalent) Diploma in Nutrition & Health or equivalent Sound knowledge of HACCP & COSHH Proven track record /experience of working with fresh food Proven experience in catering for large numbers
