Cook
to lead the preparation and presentation of healthy, balanced meals for our Day Service. You will work with seasonal produce, including home-grown fruits and vegetables, and create menus that reflect the dietary and cultural needs of our residents, day students, volunteers, and employees.

MAIN DUTIES
Meal Preparation
Prepare attractive, healthy, fresh, tasty and nutritious meals for the Day Service in a timely and consistent manner
Provide a nutritious well-balanced weekly menu
Consider all dietary needs and requirements to accommodate allergies, cultural requirements
Consult with day students, co-workers and staff to inform planning of menus
Establish a rotational menu which is varied and follows seasonal availability of home-grown vegetables and fruits
Resource Management
To ensure that food resources are employed effectively and efficiently
To liaise with the Estate team regarding our home-grown vegetable and fruit products and to routinely maximise their use
Determine food and supply needs based on rotating menus
Calculate expected food consumption; then requisition or purchase supplies, or procure food from storage as required
Control and minimize food wastage and manage efficient disposal of waste
Complete the weekly shopping list and undertake stock control
To keep accurate records
Regulatory Compliance
Inspect food products and supplies as needed
Ensure work environment and stations are clean and sanitised
To comply with all food safety, health and safety and environmental health regulations reporting to the Day Service Co-ordinator any necessary action required
To be responsible for carrying out and recording all health and safety checks in the kitchen including fridge, freezer and food temperatures
To ensure that all personnel supporting in the kitchen area adhere to high standards of hygiene
To be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of residents and day students in the kitchen area
To ensure that all lifting and movement of foodstuffs complies with manual handling techniques
QUALIFICATIONS
Level 3 Food Hygiene Certificate
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Strong working knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods, and safety and sanitation practices
Strong working knowledge of general kitchen equipment and appliances
Ability to work autonomously to plan menus, manage stock rotation, purchase goods, manage a budget
Always maintain confidentiality of individuals and information
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

Ability to build effective and supportive relationships with colleagues and day students
An approachable, enthusiastic and empathetic nature along with an appreciation of the needs of adults with a learning disability
An enthusiastic approach for food preparation and delivery.
Have an understanding of the importance of meal times and the rhythms / routines of daily living which contribute to the experience of individuals sharing a meal together.
