To be responsible for the provision of meals in a Secondary School, cooking for upto 700 pupils and staff per day. Supervising a team of upto 14 Catering Assistants and 1 Assistant cook. Working within Healthy Eating in Schools (Wales)measure 2009, current health, safety and hygiene legislation and the county's healthy eating policy. With the aim of achieving high standards of customer care.
Responsible for running a smooth, safe and efficient High school kitchen.
Cook and prepare meals and break time snacks to meet menu and special dietary requirements, agreed quality standards and in accordance accord with the school timetable.
Order materials from centrally appointed suppliers to keep adequate stocks to meet day to day demands.
Direct supervision of 1 Assistant Cook and upto 14 Catering Assistants.
Complete the weekly catering returns, timesheets and other records necessary to ensure the effective administration of the service.
Cooks are responsible for creating work rotas, allocation of hours and duties.
Cooks are responsible for keeping accurate daily and weekly financial records of income taken and meal numbers.
Ensure that all food preparation, storage and service areas and staff working practices are hygienic and safe.
Responsible for the security of the school kitchen including fridges, freezers and all stock rooms.
Promote the service within the school to increase uptake of School Meals.
Whilst the post holder is not responsible for staff recruitment, he/she will undertake all on the job training and organise day to day deployment.
The Catering Assistants and the assistant Cook report to the Cook.

Required Education, Skills and Qualifications
The post holder must have NVQ level 2 /City & Guilds 706/2 in Catering.
The post holder must have Food Hygiene or HACCP qualifications.
Essential experience in supervising a large team.
It is essential that the post holder has good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and work within a deadline.
Must have experience in cooking for large numbers.
Empathy with the Welsh Language and Culture.
The Post holder must have the ability and experience to lead and be part of a team.
