Job Summary
We are looking for a skilled and caring
Cook
to join our team and play a key role in delivering delicious, safe, and nutritious meals for our residents. The ideal candidate will have experience in a care, school, hospital, or similar catering environment and understand how to prepare meals that meet individual dietary requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Meal Preparation & Service
Prepare and cook fresh, nutritious meals in line with weekly menus and individual dietary requirements.
Ensure all meals are well-presented, appropriately portioned, and served on time.
Support themed meals and special occasions (e.g., birthdays, cultural events, holidays).
Food Safety & Hygiene
Maintain excellent kitchen hygiene and comply with Food Safety Regulations (Food Hygiene Rating Standards).
Ensure safe food storage, temperature checks, and the correct use of kitchen equipment.
Follow HACCP procedures and complete all required documentation.
Residents' Dietary Needs
Cater for residents with allergies, intolerances, modified texture diets, and cultural preferences.
Work closely with care staff to understand changing dietary needs.
Promote a positive dining experience that encourages residents' independence and enjoyment.
Kitchen Management
Manage stock levels, complete stock rotation, and minimise waste.
Place food orders within budget guidelines.
Keep all kitchen areas clean, tidy, and compliant with infection prevention and control standards.
Teamwork & Communication
Work collaboratively with other cooks, kitchen assistants, and care staff.
Communicate effectively to ensure smooth service and high standards.
Support training and give guidance to new kitchen staff when required.
Requirements
Previous cooking experience, ideally in a care or catering setting.
Food Hygiene Level 2 (Level 3 desirable).
Knowledge of allergens, special diets, and food fortification.
Ability to work independently and manage a busy kitchen.
Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
Warm, patient, and supportive approach to older people.
