We are seeking a Core Creative Psychotherapist to join our dedicated therapeutic community team within a prison setting at HMP Dovegate on the Staffordshire/Derbyshire border near Uttoxeter. Our category B male prison has an operational capacity of 1100 prisoners who are serving a range of sentences including remand; those awaiting sentence and convicted men serving sentences up to life in prison.
This is a non-operational, prisoner-facing role focused on supporting the therapeutic needs of residents through specialist creative psychotherapy in a structured and clinically guided environment.
As a registered specialist in a Core Creative Psychotherapy (CCP) discipline--such as Art Psychotherapy or Psychodrama--you will play a vital role in delivering structured therapeutic interventions that support rehabilitation and psychological well-being in a democratic Therapeutic Community.
As part of this you will:
Facilitate Creative Psychotherapy group sessions and large community meetings
Conduct clinical assessments for therapy referrals.
Contribute to the risk assessment and therapeutic planning for complex or high-risk residents.
Provide detailed specialist reports and treatment feedback
Actively support community-based processes using psychodynamic and relational approaches.
Play a key part in clinical audit and service evaluation, including national peer review processes.
What You need to do the role:
Postgraduate qualification in a relevant Core Creative Psychotherapy modality (e.g., Art Psychotherapy, Psychodrama)
Registered with HCPC and relevant governing body (e.g., BAAT)
Evidence of ongoing continuing professional development (CPD)
Experience:
Previous experience in forensic or prison settings (desirable)
Skilled in clinical assessment and group facilitation
Knowledge of Therapeutic Community (TC) principles and practices
Skills:
Excellent communication and report writing skills
Able to work collaboratively with offenders and multi-disciplinary teams
Skilled in reflective practice and critical evaluation of research
