Overview of role
The purpose of this role is to develop and implement communications strategies to build London Transport Museum's reputation, increase public awareness and support, and grow and enhance the Museum's audience and community across a broad range of the Museum's work including: education, heritage, thought leadership, sector leadership and innovation, fundraising, corporate partnerships and sponsorships.
The role will include media relations, media sell-ins, production of publicity assets, social media, briefing internal teams on corporate communications activity and maintaining the consistent application of the Museum brand.
Key accountabilities

  • Corporate communications strategy - work with the Marketing & Development team and teams across the Museum to develop communications strategies aligned to the Museum's five-year strategy
  • Media relations - proactively sell in positive stories to the media, pitch ideas for features, develop ongoing relationships, respond to and service enquiries from press and media. Draft press releases, follow-up contacts, supply photographs and further information. Oversee the maintenance and regular updating of press mailing lists, marketing databases and other administration systems. Develop relationships with journalists and media
  • Print and distribution - write communications copy, manage the production and distribution of communication materials. Ensure relevant distribution databases are maintained
  • Online and social media - use the Museum's website, social media channels and e-communications as tools to support corporate communications, news and events
  • Cross-departmental working - working across the Museum's Marketing and Development team and with teams across the Museum to ensure that campaigns are integrated and delivered effectively
  • Events and public programme - manage a range of internal and external events including press launches and familiarisation visits, private views, filming and photo-shoots, press and stakeholder visits. Contribute corporate communications expertise to the development of exhibitions and the Museum's public programme
  • Stakeholder relations - represent the Museum at industry (tourism, transport and cultural) forums. Liaise with sponsors and funders and keep up to date on industry developments. Establish relationships with key partners to support key partnerships with sponsors and corporate members building and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships

  • Working in a PR/communications environment preferably in a press office or PR agency, charity or heritage organisation
  • Project management of campaigns
  • Events organisation e.g. press previews and private views
  • Collaborative working across teams and with partners and stakeholders from the commercial and not for profit sectors
  • Working with external organisations and agencies including suppliers
