This Cost Recovery Specialist role plays a crucial role in recovering outstanding legal costs and disbursements following settlement or judgment. It will advise on prospects of recovery and initiate proceedings where necessary. Support the litigation team with technical expertise in costs recovery. Ensure compliance with Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) and Practice Directions and monitor developments in costs law and provide internal updates and training.
Duties
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage cases involving outstanding costs and disbursements.
Identify and pursue recovery of legal costs and disbursements from defendants or insurers.
Prepare cases for summary and detailed assessment, to include drafting bills of costs, Replies to Pojnts of Dispute.
Deal with fixed costs disputes, to include drafting Applications, Part 8 proceedings, and Precedent U documentation. .
Initiate and manage costs-only proceedings where appropriate.
Advise fee earners on prospects of recovery and litigation strategy and provide technical support in relation to costs to the wider litigation team..
Issue proceedings relating to costs recovery and attend costs hearings where required.
Handle Part 8 applications, enforcement proceedings, and Part 36 offers related to costs disputes.
Ensure compliance with CPR, Practice Directions, and recent FRC reforms.Secure payments on account of costs at the earliest opportunity.
Monitor developments in costs law and provide internal updates and training.
Maintain accurate records of successes and failures in costs recovery efforts.
Analyse recovery processes to identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements.
Implement cost control strategies to maximise resource utilisation and minimise waste.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on recovery objectives and strategies.
Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to recovery operations and report findings to management.
Maintain accurate records of recovery activities and prepare regular reports for stakeholders.
Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in recovery management.
Qualifications
Qualified solicitor
Cost lawyer experience
Claims experience
Proven experience in a similar role with ideally 3 years.
Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage effectively with team members at all levels.
Proficiency in using relevant software tools for data analysis and reporting. Excel and Proclaim are used.
A proactive and commercial mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
