We\xe2\x80\x99re seeking a future team member for the role of Counsel to join our EMEA Regulation and Supervision Legal team. This role is located in UK \xe2\x80\x93 hybrid (minimum of 3 days in office per week).

In this role, you\xe2\x80\x99ll make an impact in the following ways:

  • You will advise on a variety of regulatory and supervisory matters for the subsidiaries and branches of The Bank of New York Mellon in EMEA and provide legal support to EMEA regulatory change implementation and remediation projects. Although the role spans all business lines, it will primarily be focused on the Securities Services & Markets Services business areas.
  • You will coordinate work with other lawyers in the EMEA Legal department, Public Policy and Governmental Affairs, the Office of Regulatory Relations, Risk and Compliance to deliver a high standard of legal advice to clients and stakeholders.
Key responsibilities will include:
  • Providing legal advice on prudential matters, recovery and resolution planning, operational resilience, Environmental, Social and Governance issues and general regulatory matters (including in support of business lines\xe2\x80\x99 new or amended product development).
  • Providing end-to-end legal support to BNY Mellon\xe2\x80\x99s programmes for the implementation of new regulations and regulatory remediation.
  • Supporting the monitoring of emerging regulatory and supervisory developments and new regulations and, where appropriate, providing thought leadership in relation thereto (including through providing commentary for advocacy and engaging in industry initiatives).
To be successful in this role, we\xe2\x80\x99re seeking the following:
  • A candidate who has at least 3 years PQE with a legal background in advising on regulatory matters in the financial services sector (gained at a UK law firm, financial institution, or regulatory agency).
  • A candidate who has experience with:
  • Providing guidance on the interpretation of financial services law and regulation.
  • Advising in respect of financial institution supervisory matters and trends.
  • Advising in respect of regulatory change and remediation programmes for financial institutions.
  • Advising in respect of communications with financial services regulators.
  • A candidate who is:
  • Enthusiastic about developing a deep understanding of BNY Mellon\xe2\x80\x99s organization and its businesses.
  • Willing to take on early responsibility, have drive and a strong work ethic, an open and curious mind, and a desire to develop an in-house legal career.
  • Be a \xe2\x80\x9cself-starter\xe2\x80\x9d, dynamic and proactive, and willing to function independently and to engage with clients and other stakeholders.
  • Have a commercial and pragmatic mindset, strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
  • A \xe2\x80\x9cteam player\xe2\x80\x9d who deals effectively with colleagues and external business contacts in a collaborative manner while conveying a positive, service-oriented attitude.
