Parenting Project Counselling Service
Our counselling service offers a safe and highly ethical confidential service to parents/carers of children 0-19 (25 SEND). We offer up to 18 weekly sessions using either person centred/ integrative or psychodynamic therapy. We hold the sentiment that 'it is not what is wrong with you, but what has happened to you' at the core of our work. Being 'trauma informed' in our relationships with clients can facilitate better outcomes and help avoid the stigma which often comes when experiencing mental health distress.
Job Purpose
Working with the Mental Health Lead (MHL) and Mental Health Coordinator (MHC) to ensure that the counselling service offered to clients meets with the highest professional standards and that counselling procedure and practice is in line with the BACP recommendations and regulations.
Working Hours
This is a hybrid role, working from a 'virtual office' and able to attend head office in Kenilworth at least twice per month and as and when required.
Tuesday - Thursday 9am-4pm. Negotiable for the right candidate.
Key Relationships
Parents, Carers, Counselling staff team, Counselling Volunteers and Associates, Student Counsellors, Universities & other Statutory and Voluntary Sector Agencies.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out the application and assessment process of parents/carers referred to the PP counselling service. To formulate client assessments with the MHC for review before clients are worked with by students.
Coordinate and support students through the client allocation process and liaise closely with the Counselling Team members.
Work with the MHL & MHC to provide counselling advice and support, for all counsellors (students, associates & volunteers) working for the Parenting Project.
Support to source and recruit new counselling students and associates as required and in line with the Parenting Project Policies and Procedures. Including supporting the onboarding and induction process.
Work within the guidelines laid down with the Parenting Project Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy and the Warwickshire Safeguarding Children Board.
Act in the role of Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead and support with safeguarding oversight.
Build relationships within the counselling service and wider Parenting Project Team.
To maintain the counselling databases and online system
Ensure that the standards of the Code of ethics of BACP are maintained within the service.
Attend and participate in staff development sessions, team meetings, individual or group supervision, clinical supervision and other meetings as required.
To have due regard to the Equality Act 2010 ensuring all individuals are treated with dignity and respect.
Ensure that all Parenting Project policies & procedures are understood and put into practice.
To undertake any other duties as required in line with the scope and spirit of the job purpose, the title of the post and its grading.
The role may require the counsellor to hold a caseload

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential/Desirable
Educated to graduate level or equivalent -D
Minimum of Level 4 qualification in counselling adults -E
Understanding the differences between the social model and the medical model in regard to mental health/distress -E
BACP registered member working towards accreditation -E
Knowledge of BACP ethical framework -E
Counsellor currently in practice and attending supervision- E
Knowledge of trauma informed approach -E
Experience
Previous experience of counselling with parents in crisis and being able to work across a multidisciplinary team -E
Experience of working within a mixed team of paid staff and volunteers -D
Experience of completing client assessments and exploring risk -D
