As a Counsellor for Children and Young People the focus of this role is on delivering one to one counselling for clients up to 18 years and/or their parent/guardian. Other responsibilities may include: co-facilitating therapeutic and psychoeducation groups; mentoring and offering peer support to CYP Counsellors in Training on placement with Trauma Recovery CIC counselling; co-facilitating group sessions.
The post holder will be a fully qualified Children and Young Person Counsellor at level 4 or above and registered with a PSA approved body (such as NCPS, BACP, UKCP). They will have a minimum of 3 years post qualifying experience working with children and young people in a counselling capacity as well as appropriate training and experience of working with trauma.
Hours:
The role is 16.5 hours per week working on Tuesdays and Thursdays as set out below, and with 2 additional days, also set out below:
Tuesday: 9.30am-1pm in person at TRCIC Head Office
Thursday: 1pm-8pm at TRCIC Head Office
Additional shifts which may be remote, head office, or a satellite hub in Herts:
Monday: 10am-5pm
Wednesday: 10.30am-5.30pm
Friday: 9am-4pm
There may be the possibility of increased hours dependent on organisational need and funding.
Main Duties:
Provide a specialised counselling service to children and young people aged 24 years or under and/or their parent/guardian
Provide short term or longer-term counselling to clients
Utilise aspects of therapeutic approaches including play therapy to adapt to the needs of the clients
Provide general counselling to clients with a higher complexity of needs than level 1 & 2 Counsellors
Provide trauma-focused Counselling
Maintain adequate records of clinical work
Act where necessary to safeguard clients and follow TRCIC's policies and procedures
Work within the ethical guidance of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society
Work within agreed boundaries, maintaining Trauma Recovery CIC values
Commit to and work from a trauma informed perspective, adhering to anti-discriminatory practice
Attend and fully engage with clinical and case supervision
Attend and fully engage with team meetings and 121's
Provide appropriate statistical returns as required and participate and assist with all research, feedback, and evaluation projects by accurate data completion
Have a clear awareness of and comply with TRCIC's policies, procedures and service standards
Attend any TRCIC mandatory training events and maintain a training portfolio of continuous professional development attendance
Log all training and continued professional development
Keep updated on developments in services for children and young people within the community and national policy
Anything else that your Team Leader or TRCIC asks you to do that fits with the values of TRCIC and the NCPS
Additional duties, subject to individuals' progression in the role and organisational need:
Co-facilitate therapeutic and psychoeducation groups
Offer peer support and mentoring to CYP Counsellors in Training depending on organisational needs
Co-facilitate groups where required
Complete further training to offer therapeutic support to clients in specific areas
Skills & Experience
Essential
Minimum Level 4 Qualification in Counselling
Counselling qualification in working with children and young people
450 hours live Counselling training with an organisation recognised and course accredited by, NCPS BACP, UKCP
Minimum 3 years in practice since qualifying (3 years of consistently working as a Counsellor)
Experience of working in person and online
Held MNCPS or equivalent and in good standing for at least 1 year
Minimum 1.5 hours supervision per month
Recognised and certified Trauma Training
Commitment to CPD and deepening trauma knowledge
A clear enhanced DBS check registered with the live checking service and references
Safeguarding Qualification Level 2
Desirable
Lived Experience of sexual, domestic or relational trauma
Experience of working within satellite centres
Experience of client management systems
Experience of co-facilitating groups
Experience of working with parents/guardians
