The Opportunity

University of the Arts London has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Counsellor to join our Counselling and Health Advice Service.

As a Counsellor, you will provide assessments, counselling, crisis management and related forms of support to students, both individually and in groups. Counselling will usually be conducted on a short-term basis, with occasional longer-term work as necessitated by circumstances. You will work closely with managers and the rest of the team to foster good practice and to support the development of our counselling service.

You will be based at a college site and there may be some flexibility to work from home for part of your working week. There may be a requirement to work one evening a week up to 7pm.

About You

You will have a degree, a postgraduate counselling qualification or a counselling psychology qualification, along with (or awaiting) professional accreditation with BACP, BABCP or equivalent. You will possess the expertise necessary to work with a diverse range of issues and can support students to engage successfully with their studies and University life.

You will have previous counselling experience, both online and in person, and will demonstrate a good understanding of student support and risk management within an educational setting. You will have a good understanding of the needs of university students, a flexible and collaborative approach, excellent liaison skills and the ability to contain anxiety in yourself and others.

Appointment to this role will be subject to a criminal record check from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed. Having a criminal record will not necessarily bar you from employment. This will depend on the circumstances and background to your offence(s).
