You will provide a range of services to members of the Farming Union of Wales (FUW). You will be experienced and knowledgeable of current and potential Welsh Government schemes available for farmers and can complete most grant applications for farmers who are members of the FUW. Ideally you will have experience in delivering on-farm advice and have a strong working knowledge of the agriculture sector.
Responsibilities:
Support FUW Members in Glamorgan and / or Gwent:
Deliver a range of high-quality support services to FUW members within the county, including advice on Welsh Government schemes, regulations, and grants.
Promote FUW Services and Membership:
Support the growth and retention of FUW membership in the county through proactive engagement, events, and promotion of the union's benefits.
Grant Application Assistance:
Complete and submit grant applications on behalf of FUW members, ensuring accuracy, eligibility, and adherence to deadlines for various agricultural schemes.
Provide On-Farm Advice:
Offer practical, informed guidance to farmers during on-farm visits, helping members understand and comply with government schemes and agricultural best practices.
Liaise with Policy and Office Teams:
Work closely with the policy team and other FUW county office staff to ensure alignment in the delivery of services and policy messaging.
Member Engagement and Support:
Act as the primary point of contact for members in your county, addressing queries, providing timely information, and supporting member needs across agricultural and union-related matters.
Stay Up to Date with Policy and Sector Changes:
Maintain a current understanding of agricultural policy developments, industry trends, and upcoming government schemes affecting Welsh agriculture.
Coordinate Local Activities:
Assist in organizing and participating in county-level events, meetings, training sessions, and policy briefings to promote FUW priorities and support local members.
Collaborate Across Counties:
Share knowledge and collaborate with staff across Wales to ensure a consistent and high standard of member service.
Report and Feedback:
Provide regular feedback and reporting to FUW senior staff on county activities, member issues, and relevant developments in your area.
Requirements:
Essential
Strong understanding of the agriculture sector in Wales, including key challenges, practices, and policy developments.
Proven experience advising on and completing applications for Welsh Government schemes and agricultural grants.
Willingness and ability to travel throughout the county and occasionally across Wales as required.
Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex policies clearly to a range of audiences.
Desirable
A degree in Agricultural / Environmental Science or a related subject
Ability to communicate in Welsh
Confidence in speaking at meetings or representing the FUW at public or stakeholder events.
Previous experience delivering on-farm consultancy or advisory services, particularly related to policy or compliance.
Familiarity with working in a union, cooperative, or membership-based organisation.
