Job Advert
An exciting opportunity ..... do you have an interest in Criminal Justice and Law and would like to make a difference in protecting the public?

The role of a Police Prosecutor/Court Presentation Officer is an interesting and varied job within a supportive environment. This role offers an excellent opportunity to developing confidence, public speaking and advocacy skills in an important public service.

A quote from one of our CPO's "There are no two days the same as a Court presentation Officer, I act as a prosecutor in Thames Valley Police's Police-led prosecutions and feel I play an integral role in prosecuting offenders and protecting the public. This is an excellent opportunity to develop my confidence and public speaking skills whilst building on my interest in law and criminal justice. I always feel supported and know that I have plenty of opportunities for development."

Thames Valley Police have assumed responsibility of presenting low-level traffic offences and Domestic Violence Protection Notices in the magistrates' court. The main purpose of the role will be presenting the cases in court. In traffic cases manage individuals attending court, cross examine exceptional hardship disqualification matters and manage contested matters. For Domestic Violence Protection Notices you will prepare and present the case to the District Judge or Magistrates to obtain an Order.

You will be managing daily court listings ensuring cases meet prosecution and evidential standards and are prepared for presentation. You will be required to present case facts in context and respond to mitigation, legal arguments and liaise with defendants, victims or interested parties at court over potential trial issues or procedures. After court, you will provide feedback; manage file upgrade requests, request link live applications and outcomes on databases and systems. You will need to build good working relationships and provide feedback with internal and external agencies such as Crown Prosecution Service, Defence, Defendants, Perpetrators, Victims and Officers.

You will need to demonstrate significant verbal and written presentation skills together with strong interpersonal skills including negotiation and influencing. Experience of effective decision-making and an ability to work as part of a team is essential to meet deadlines in the face of unrealistic demands. Excellent planning and organisation skills are also required identifying issues promptly and managing them (complicated cases).

You will be required to demonstrate relevant experience and proven skills in the criminal justice arena and good knowledge of crime, traffic and court procedures. In addition, an understanding of relevant legislation as it applies to the role. Strong MS Office IT skills are required, including Word, Excel, and experience of working with databases. Depending on court workloads, you occasionally will be required to work unsociable hours and for this reason, a full UK licence is required.

As part of the Thames Valley Police family you will enjoy a fantastic range of benefits including 24 days annual leave per annum, pro-rata for part time (plus Bank Holidays), flexible working conditions, a wide range of lifestyle discounts, career development opportunities and have the option to join a local government pension scheme.
