Job Overview

MON-FRI : 7:45am - 15:00pm, 33.75 hours/week, 36.8 weeks(including 3 inset days)

This is a term-time role supporting pupils across the school by supervising lessons during teacher absence and ensuring a positive, orderly learning environment. You will deliver pre-prepared work, maintain classroom expectations, and keep students on task. When cover is not required, you will support wider school operations, including form periods and lunch duties.

Duties

Supervise whole classes in the short-term absence of teachers, ensuring students remain on task with set work. Promote positive behaviour, manage classroom conduct and respond to incidents in line with school policy. Assist students with class activities and provide clarification where required. Complete registers, collect work, and return it to the appropriate teacher. Support form cover, lunch duties, and general school operations when cover is not needed. Establish positive relationships with students, encouraging independence, cooperation, and participation. Recognise individual learner needs and encourage engagement through clear expectations. Maintain a safe and inclusive classroom environment and respond to emergencies according to procedures.

Skills

Experience working with young people in a school environment. Strong communication skills and confidence leading a classroom. Ability to manage behaviour calmly and consistently. Reliable, adaptable, and able to follow instructions while using initiative. Understanding of safeguarding and maintaining student wellbeing. Competent with classroom systems, electronic registers, and relevant IT software.
